SU 69 vs Clemson 88: Wed Mar 2, 1 PM [ACCT 1st Rd]

Depends on your expectations...It has been a difficult season. Now over. I assume there are no more games for us.
Does anyone expect Read to be retained? All things considered; he didn't do a bad job but he is part of that Hillman legacy. How does recruiting look for September?

It might not have been the season we wanted but I enjoyed watching these young women. I also appreciated that we got to see them doing things outside of basketball.
Me too. Don't see those outside activities too often. Team building.

And I thought that was truly wonderful that they brought Styles family in to be there for Senior Day.

A valiant effort by a very exhausted and frustrated team forced to play very long periods without relief. Couple that with injuries the limited the bench even more.

Due to interim status coaches not able to add additional players, further frustrating their efforts!

IMO Coach Read should be allowed to enter his name into list of candidates.

Having said that, I feel it’s in the best interest of Cuse women’s sport to have a female HC.

Perhaps a role for Coach Read could be carved out by Cuse Athletics perhaps with Women’s hoops or perhaps with both Men’s and Women’s programs. He certainly has a unique skills set which would provide basketball with a competitive advantage; like an analyst for basketball strategy.

Team and cultural awareness building for a way too marginalized group in our society, IMO!

I don't agree that just because it's a women's team they have to have a woman HC. It should be the best hire regardless.
But I do agree that based on what he was able to accomplish with a team that was mostly last minute transfers Coach Read has earned the right to be considered for the HC position.

I didn’t say they should have a woman as a head coach. What I said is predicated on looking at broader issues in Women’s sport.

Women’s softball is on the rise with a talented female HC. Field Hockey is a perennial top team with a female HC. These are only examples. With minority participation in sport ( yes Women’s participation is a relatively new experience for female athletes on the college level)

Women, like other minority groups ( experience wise) benefit from having mentors that they can relate to.

Currently, the NFL is struggling to provide meaning numbers in it’s HC positions while at the same time having a preponderance of it’s athletes being non Caucasian.

Social change is globally slow since those in power benefit from the status quo.

Just my thoughts. For a more informed viewpoint ask the women on this board.

There are multiple female BB teams that excel with a male coach. UConn and Louisville, where Emily Engstler transferred to, come to mind. Obviously Emily didn't feel that she needed to have a female coach to succeed.
Our Ice Hockey team, that just won the CHA has a male coach. You could see how much they love him when celebrating the win.

Women don't need a female HC to be successful. They just need the right HC male or female.

And as a female I think I already have an informed viewpoint.

There are no recruits for Sept., since we didn't have a coach in place. We will have to build from the portal again and hope that our current players return. A win for us, would be if the Carrs return but that may depend on who is the coach.

Will the portal be as active this year? 226 last yr, 71 were grad students, 55 came from Power 5 conferences. Can we find some height?

Hopefully, SU has trimmed to a short list of candidates that would like and make decision in timely fashion so they can work the portal as players enter.

No, SU is not going to create a special basketball role for anyone unless it's Boeheim.

Hillsman legacy - thought it would be more of an issue this year but was never mention much during the season. Though SU should probably address changes in their culture and what they are doing/have done to protect future athletes here.

I apologize to you; I don’t have the best vision and didn’t realize you are female!

So many males are not at all cognizant of the value of women in sport and I responded out of that bias.

Of course I defer to your thoughts on this. My only true concern is for women are given a fair chance at leadership within SU Athletics!

The first call should be to Felisha Legette. Seems like a no brainer

I admit that I know more about the number of scholarships and players on the football team but how many of the ladies on the team do you see returning? And isn't the limit of scholarship players 12?

Tina Thompson fired after four seasons as Virginia women's basketball coach.

Those wanting Reiss at SU, may be out of luck. Given how they hire here, even money on Reed or Jack as the next coach.

I was thinking the same thing …

I’m wondering if Priscilla will transfer and if that’s why she redshirted…

If she was planning on transferring; why not do so earlier in the season or before.
The only reason other than being loyal to Coach Read would be wanting to keep continuity in her medical rehab!
