SU at Ga Tech (68-85): Thurs Jan 2, 7 PM

"There are a lot of limitations that can be overcome with effort, hard work, an eye for talent, and great communication" and good coaching...The jury is out on that...

Cheriehoop: The incessant message that you refer to, is not specifically directed to you. I love your enthusiasm for the team! I watch every game, go to games in person, and send words of encouragement to the players that I know personally. In addition, I support the team financially. The incessant message that you refer to is directed to the so called "fans" that are calling for the Firing of the reining ACC Coach of the Year, Coach Felicia Legette Jack!!! They don't seem to understand that the reason our record is what it is...is unrelated to coaching, and is directly related to our inability to recruit some of the players that we covet, because of our inability to compete financially with the offers that they are receiving from competing schools. It isn't an excuse, it is our new reality. There are a lot of limitations that can be overcome with effort, hard work, an eye for talent, and great communication, but in this NIL world, Cold hard Cash...and the lack there of, is speaking louder than anything else! Just look at the great coaches that are getting out of coaching because of this new landscape. Syracuse women's sports is in trouble...but our "so called fans"...want to blame coaching.
She did not suddenly learn to coach or recruit. The really terrible thing in today's ga.e is thar everybody needs to be a fund raiser as well. Hopefully the GM will handle most of that, but everybody needs to do their part.

If you think the Jury is still out on that, clearly, you haven't followed Coach Jack's career. She played the game at a high level herself, she knows the game and she can coach! She is the reigning ACC Coach of The Year ! She can recruit as well! What is the difference in this year's team and Last year's? We lost a 3,000 point, 20 points per game scorer and have not been able to replace her. We lost an all ACC freshman team player to Tennessee because of our inability to match their financial commitment. We have lost some quality, high level talented players from right in our backyard...because of NIL deals and our inability to compete in that market. Syracuse fans need to wake up and look at what is happening in College Athletics and how it is impacting Syracuse sports in general and Women's hoops in particular. That is our new reality. I will keep as one poster describes it...incessantly repeating the same message until fans stop criticizing the coaching, and start contributing to the Coach's fund, so we can start to accumulate some funds to help us get players. Before you criticize the coaching again, have you contributed financially to Women's basketball? You can go to Cuse.com and there is a link you can click that will give you a list of options to support SU Athletics . It is time SU "Fans" start supporting the teams with their checkbook and stop criticizing the teams with their computer key strokes.

Exactly! This year we’ll probably lose Georgia Woolley, Kyra Wood, Saniaa Wilson, Izabel Varejao and Dominique Camp who have all played 4 years unless the NCAA’s talk about extending college eligibility to 5 years comes to fruition for women’s basketball. Most of these players came only because of their previous association with Coach Jack herself, not the lure of playing for SU and getting big NIL money. We took a big hit after Coach Q‘s fiasco and coupled with the new NIL and transfer portal effects, only Coach Jack herself has kept us relevant and for recent fans posting, kept the expectations high for the program that they are expressing here.

I have stayed positive believing in Coach Jack but worried about the program’s future if she can’t get the financial support now necessary to have a competitive program. She is active in the community, a great ambassador for the university, an honored SU alum herself and if she fails, the university, alumni, the community and fans should look inward for the reasons. What successful coach would come here when an SU icon herself can’t guarantee the money necessary to lure big time recruits? I wish I was rich or owned a successful company to donate more but I do donate and stay positive about what SU and Felisha‘s coaching skills offers to top recruits.

Great Effort today...we just came up a little short. The danger in in a season like this...is the team giving up on the coach, but I don't see that happening. Credit to the Lady Orange for continuing to fight!!

I could not have said it better! ...LOL...Coach Jack has a very compelling story for young women and her message still connects with young women, but NIL has changed everything!

The answer is to go even harder on International recruits, NIL is far less an issue for them. Syracuse has a name, a great program and plays in a top conference. The Aussie recruits that were offered for next year were lazy options being from the COE, that is a very small pool which is highly exposed and while Somfai and Dias are great prospects, the same can't be said for most of them. There are a stack of Maddy Potts type players who would kill to go the Sysacuse, are as good or better than the COE kids and don't have the same level of exposure. The COE recently sent a team over to play in the Nike TOC in Arizona and came 5th, the group that represented Potts sent a team that came 4th and only lost to IMG by 1 point, only 2 of those girls have offers and none are committed, the COE team had 5 P4 commits and more with P4 offers. I'm sure there are many more in Europe who are also underexposed but really good.

Here are the 2 teams playing the same opponent:
