SU athletic dept just posted this on Facebook

One of the lax programs this year had a front cover celebrating past NCCA championship teams.

Only uni's and actual games draw the kind of excitement from our fans as marketing mistakes and name misspellings.

All you making fun of the guys pointing out the mistake. Listen Linda...this isn't an isolated incident. Ernie Statue, misspelled name on jersey, etc. The department brings in millions. Somebody isn't doing their job up there. I don't think enabling them by turning a blind eye is helping anyone. Will it affect the game? Nope. But it looks amateurish at best. Do we want to act like a big time program or not?

Rookie mistake, make him/her wear yellow tape across their back for the remainder of the season

(Ill use a Dino race car analogy since the did last week, for those not familiar that signifies rookies in NASCAR, they are required to have a yellow tape on their back bumper)

Lol calm down it's just an intern or a low level person posting the wrong jpeg.

The football videos which we all love had the extended cut from NC State with UNC's logos. Absolutely minimal blip on the mistake radar in comparison

No. There needs to be proper QA and validation on their end. I do this for a living and if one of my firm's multi-millionaire clients got marketing materials that weren't vetted before it went out, I wouldn't hear the end of it. The video is still up on their Twitter feed. Video production isn't a JPEG. It requires a lot more effort especially when the graphics are being added on a frame by frame basis. This wasn't validated and it impacts the brand.

Do rookie drivers just get out there and wing it? Or do they have an experienced crew chief? Where is the Sr Editor who gave approval for this to go out?

I work in internal communications for a company and I'm not going to pretend these things don't happen or only happen to SU. But you absolutely need at least one more set of eyes on anything like this before it gets posted. If they do and two people miss it, that also happens but it's not so good.
When i worked in corp before moving on to Higher Ed, we had a marketing/comm dept. Nothing ever got released externally without approval from the Dept manager and VP of Marketing. I'm not trying to make huge deal out of this but it is very clear that somebody is not fully engaged in their profession up there.

Oh I agree. That's how it works on our team for internal comms. Supervisor and/or manager has to review everything

Email the AD.

Don't have to. He reads this board, I'm 99% sure.

It's not a huge deal - I can just ignore the thread. Just strikes me as a topic that would be better off as a private complaint than a pile on, revisiting everything that has gone wrong for the last 10 years. Bit like not partaking in office gossip in favor of a.) ignoring or b.) taking it to the people who can fix it

I ignore most office gossip. It's unfounded opinion most of the time. This was an official communication from the Athletic Department advertising a game with the wrong opponent. Note the word official. This wasn't some internal memo where oops I hit send before I ready. As far is it being better as a private complaint, well if I got a private email from the university and it had a mistake, I would reply to them privately. They are the ones who approved this for public consumption and it didn't go down well.

The good news is...I don’t recognize the team pictured...and I’m positive America doesn’t either.

Meh. Just don't see the value in it.

WTH are you talking about? I know a Virginia Cavs football player when I see one!

Value? Jeez man you sound like that dang resume coach and all her value add crap. Fact is I posted my opinion about a football ad on a football fan site. I didn't put a whole lot of energy into it.

I actually think the cavs have the best helmet in football.

I simply interpret it as that they Beat NC State. Just the facts

Reminds me of Lionel Hutz’ card in the Simpsons that read “Free Consultation No Money Down”

After he tried to charge Homer when they were asking about a case, he exclaimed “Darn Printer...Another mistake”

He then took out his pen to add the punctuation so it read “Free Consultation? No. Money Down!”
