SU basketball's 101 vacated wins will include memorable 2006 Big East title

Not that it matters at this point, but was the "impermissible work" more than a tutor doing citations for a Fab Melo paper? I don't remember reading about any other work. I wish they detailed the number of violations/counts and the corresponding wins vacated. The whole thing is so petty especially compared to some real organized cheating at other places.

Furthermore, we seem to be the only school that took action to correct these mistakes. We self-reported, revisited policy, suspended players, etc.

Maybe I should read the report again but then I might have go out and smack the first person I see with a UNCheat shirt on.

Other than Fab Melo (The NCAA was aware of the whole process of trying to keep him eligible as well) there is absolutely no proof that the other guys were not eligible academically. The article even stated that the NCAA "believed", so they just decided that was the case no matter what.

A $300.00 speech that was payed back? People get paid for speaking engagements all the time. REALLY!

Chump change for reffing and talking to kids at the Y. LMAO

If they hold UNC to this same type of standard they will have to wipe out 15+ years of hoops.

If this is challenged later I think the best possible compromise will be the 41 vacated wins due to academics will stand but that the 60 wins vacated due to the YMCA will be re-instated.

Just my thoughts on the topic and I certainly am no expert.

Cheers,
Neil

I'm starting to think Mark Emmert is a Russian mole, bent on destroying the NCAA and therefore the will of tens of millions of US men and a smaller number of tens of millions of US women.

Look at his first name. Mark. What he thinks we all are.

Da or nyet?

I get why the Sub Standard wants to drag this out, but I can't for the life of me understand why so many fans are beating this long-dead horse.

SU won games with guys like Waiters and Melo who had no business being on a college campus. That sucks. Continuing to complain about some perceived injustice related to that is a bad look for the fanbase and the school. Just move on. Hopefully we can enjoy games played by more high-character kids under Hopkins.

Are you implying that Melo is stupid? I beg to differ.

I very much doubt Dion is either.

This comment about "high character kids" makes me really question how much of a Syracuse fan you are!

As if they should NOT go far a NBA payday when it beckons.

ESPECIALLY MELO! Only trophy since the 20s in large part because of him? (Of course not entirely. But no one else was a freaking lottery pick from that team, that year or any other. You think GMac wouldn't have maybe liked a chance to play in the NBA for even a season or two before joining the SU coaching staff? I think he just might have.)

He was talking about Fab Melo not Carmelo

Ah. Sorry. Gotta be specific here though cause there was controversy about Melo in his early years in the NBA. Still is, for that matter with ignorant Knicks fans whining about him not bringing them a title yet.

Stand by Dion leaving at the right time too though and I don't RECALL him screwing up the team GPA by not going to class the way "Not-so-Fab" did.

And how many of the UNC kids "had no business being on a college campus"? Or kids on 50 other campuses for that matter?

The point being--that is the nature of college athletics, especially hoops in the era of one-and-done.

So Troy Smith gets paid money and Ohio State suspends him but they don't lose those but Syracuse loses 45 wins due to a 300 dollar check.

OSU gets probation

What. Why aren't suing the NCAA.
I am very disappointed in Kent. I thought we had a fighter. i guess I was wrong.

Honestly there is no reason for the NCAA to be as punitive as they did in regards to the wins unless they intentionally(this is obvious) want to spite Jim Boeheim.

Ohio State's starting QB who went on to win a Heisman was illegally paid thousands of dollars for a no show and he was suspended but the games he was involved in were never wiped out. All Smith had to do was repay the money and take a 2 game suspension.

However, Terrence Roberts gets 300 bucks and we lose 45 wins. I mean this is laughable. The NCAA should allow Roberts to repay the money keep the houses and just be happy with probation. The loss of the wins is just an ahole maneuver.
