SU is head and shoulders above the rest of the Big East.

way back in my mind i can vaguely remember us losing 4 straight BE games in january...
oh wait that was last year!
little debby december is officially over so wipe the frosting off your lips.
the BIG EAST is gonna be an all out last man standing beer bottle bustin' brawl again.

We were not as good as our record last year nor were we playing that well before the slide. This is a totally different team playing its best ball with peaked confidence. Apples ORANGEs.

Yep, always is and last time I checked we have to play on the road once in a while as well, people need to chill just a bit, like I said this team is great, fantastic but the Big East is a grind

It has to be said, because it's true.

Connecticut lost to UCF. Louisville was in close games against sh@t teams, and finally lost to the first good team, Georgetown, they faced. Pitt has looked like a bubble team so far. Marquette lost to LSU.

We shouldn't lose to a single Big East team this season. If we do it's our own fault.

SUball

You can't really say that. The styles Marq/Pitt/UL play regardless of personnel will continue to give us problems. I think we should beat them this year with the added depth but will not be surprised at all if they have our number again.

i know that. it's an old joke going back to the aol board days that you had to be there with our friend futbol guru. some here will remember. thus the smilie also.
Holy crap - futbol guru! Hadn't thought of that guy since, well, forever. LOL

Can't agree with most of the posts... got to say this team looks special. It's one game, but w/e... they look dominant. I feel bad for those that can't enjoy this and have to look towards a defeat, or continue to add 'salt' to the initial positive outlook/post. We as fans don't jinx the season if we speak with confidence in the team.

The way we played last night... we were head and shoulders above. We (the #1 team) are/were a final 4 team last night. It's OK to say that.

I don't think anyone is looking towards a defeat. But has a team ever gone undefeated in BE play?

And also, that means that, for example, a 16-2 BE season wouldn't be a disappointment or anything because we didn't run the table. A 16-2 season would be an incredible accomplishment. As would 15-3, etc.

I think we're the best team in the conference, without question, and also that the odds are strong against us running the table. I'm not looking forward to any losses. It's just to point out it won't be the end of the world when we lose a game.

Styles make fights and Louisville and UConn are always tough fights for us.

But has a team ever gone undefeated in BE play?

No. Best record was UConn in 95-96, when they went 17-1. Several 16-2's, also. And just for completeness' sake, 3 teams have taken the collar in BE play - Providence (0-6 in the conference's first year), Miami (0-18 in 93-94), and of course, DePaul (0-18 in 08-09, which was followed up by 1-17 in 09-10, which was followed up by another 1-17 in 10-11).

My old man says Syracuse is the best team in the Big East right now, but being young and stubborn I can't bring myself to say it just yet!

Time will tell as it always does. The one thing I know for sure is that the games at the Dome and Gampel are going to be awesome.

I thinkw e'll likely lose when we are 2 for 13 from outside, our leading scorer gets shut out and we get outrebounded. And we don't block 15 shots and make 17 steals.

I will clarify the point a little (which another poster tried to do here)...when we play like we did last night, we are head and shoulders above everybody...can we play like that every night? doubtful, but GD was that fun to watch.

Explain to me how Marq "has our number?" They beat ONE TEAM twice. We beat them every other time.

much as I hate em, this is just dumb to say.

Not really... I've seen them play 3 times this year, if top 15 = a good team, then they aren't a "good team", at least yet anyways. They can lose to just about anyone in our league (i.e. South Florida, i know they won, but it was a struggle till the end). I haven't been overly impressed with anyone except for Jeremy Lamb, who is a fantastic basketball player.

If we stay healthy and remain focused as the NBA scouts start paying more attention in February/March, I'll be shocked if we lose more than 2 games in the BE regular season - @UConn and @L'ville.
that would be historic - SU's best ever conference record was 14-2 (.875), way back in 85-86. In an 18 game season, the 09-10 team became the only Syracuse squad to win 15 conference games (15-3, .833)

Personally, I think that as we face better coached teams with more talent, there will be losses. I don't care if they lose 4 or 5 games as long as they win the Big East and lock up a protected seed and a favorable draw in the NCAAT

Well...there isnt a single team in the country that wouldnt lose under that scenario...at least against an average opponent.

We are going to lose games. At first I was thinking 8. Then I was thinking 6. Now I'm thinking 4...
A regular season loss of Four will win a NC

I remember about a week ago a post from a L'ville Guy that said they would go undefeated

Of course I've seen them play. Clearly they're still figuring things out and right now aren't great. But to say they're "not that good" is kind of absurd. By the time SU plays them in Feb I have a feeling they'll have figured things out and will be one of the 4 or 5 best teams in the country. So, if you'd included "right now" to your statement, it would be closer to reality.

Are we talking about basketball teams, or potential basketball teams? On potential, yes. They're pretty talented. But to say they're one of the best teams in the country right now is not true.

Did you watch them today, sans Calhoun on the sideline?
Potential, now, or otherwise, "not that good" is ridiculous.
And, again, it gives me no pleasure to be saying this.

UConn looks Top 5 tonight don't they?
