SU is making a huge mistake on Duke game

The main problem with it being Super Bowl weekend is the fact that after Saturday night, the headlines won't be about the court being moved, they will be about the Super Bowl. If people don't go to games because of seating, how will putting them in the upper corner of the dome help?

That, and if you are relying on people (alums/fans) traveling to Cuse to fill those seats, they may be less likely to make that trip on that particular weekend. Esp. if the Giants happen to make the Super Bowl (to say nothing of if the Bills actually found a way to be relevant again - which obviously won't occur this season). But maybe out of town fans aren't a component to selling 50K tickets??

Syracuse has or had a chance to make history against Duke by moving the court. Two Hall of Fame coaches. Our olympic team coaches. Duke Syracuse First ACC battle. Game Day National TV and we could have set an all time record one for the ages one to never be broken MADE FING HISTORY and we Punt. Major mistake.

We'll have 35,000 or so, Gameday will still be there. I'm hoping for a Villanova 2010 type of crowd energy and SU performance. That's as amazing of a college hoops atmosphere as you can get, so where is the "punt" or "mistake"? It will be awesome. We don't need to move the stupid court, we've already got the best possible setup for a big event game like this.

of the 15K how many will actually get worse seats? you are really going to only effect about 5K . and not all 15K actually are giving 5K.

you have it backwards. why should we reward 15K people with the best seats every year than an avg fan can never hope to see and never reward the 500K that live in syracuse and hope to one time experience and event like this?.

My educated estimate is that of 15,000 there will be 14,790 with worse seats.

And why should we reward the 15k (and its not a "reward" to have your seats for a game paid for) season ticket holders? Because they pay for the seats, many for years and they donate the money for most of those seats, many for years. And why should non season ticket holders be rewarded? For not being a season ticket holder when they could be?

They oughta just get rid of the top section, the bleeds, and fill in the white with seating.

Fill the white with what? Chairs flat on the floor or risers?

I don't wanna think to into this because ultimately I just realize that we need a legitimate big basketball arena... the dome just isn't keeping up with our basketball program. The writings on the wall. I love the dome and it's history but its a football place.

Not quite sure anyone cares about that kind of history. And it's not a major mistake. If it's any kind of mistake, it's a very minor one. Years from now, who will remember this?
No one. That's the point.

those same people who hold those seats and pay all that money would not be season ticket holders if they had to sit in the far reaches of the upper deck. im glad they support the team but there are lots of people who dont get season tickets because of location not because they dont support the team

dont equate distance from court as being the only thing about being a worse seat. someone in 310-311 has a decent seat. with the middle court someeon in 304-334 has a decent seat. the people who lose out are the 107-110 and the pullout people.. the ones with courtside will still have courtside

hockey has played games outdoors and dont tell me that those seats are nearly as good as what they get in the regular arena. cornell sells 3k for a reg game at lynah when they go to MSG they sell 10K and the seats are far far worse..

That's some backwards, and maybe even upside down, logic.

Not sure I'd call it a mistake. Too negative. Perhaps a "missed opportunity". We can still do subsequent games. I think the hype would have been really good for the program. If it was a success, they could do it with more big home games (Duke, UNC, GTown if they ever schedule them again). Stuff like that lights up the eyes of recruits BIG time.

If they weren't going to do it now, they never will. Case closed.

Maybe we could be if we all lived closer. Some Syracuse grads do something called moving on after graduation and get jobs where they are - even if they're not in Syracuse. Not our fault we can't go to every home game. Are we bad fans? Are we not worthy? Are we lesser citizens? Give me a break!

Did someone say bad fans?

I didn't think so.

Play the game on two courts. Just move from court to court at every 4:00 minute TV timeout. More courtside seats, everybody happy.

It's not a mistake because it wouldn't have been done the right way. From the season tickets to the logistics involved, it was going to be less than 100%, so it is better for SU to wait and get it right.

Saying 100K wanted to attend is ridiculous. Saying that SU needed this makes no sense. The Dome will be packed, a new record will be broken, and it will get the same attention on SB weekend that a court move would have received. At this point, packing the Dome and beating Duke makes the game a success. I want the Cuse fans (the loyal been with the program for a long time people) to be right on top of Duke. I want the ACC to see what 35,000 screaming fans sounds like, and I want the Clemson and FSU folks who talk about their intimidating football environments to see what the folks in the Cuse can do to make opposing teams want to wet their Pro Combat underwear.

You must have forgotten what 50k sounds like in the dome. It's a lot better than 35k.

There should be a Basketball Floor Realignment Forum. That will allow everyone to start their own thread without getting in the way of normal discussion. Do we really need 20 threads about the same subject?

Not a mistake whatsoever. The correct decision was made. 6:30 game leading into the Heat vs. Knicks game, and on Super Bowl weekend. It would've definitely been overshadowed. Plus, there's more people that would be upset by it than happy. We'll still break the record, and now we can save it for another time.

Agreed...Let's do it for Boeheim's last home game. Hopefully against Duke and Coach K.

My assumption is that a good majority of the people who buy the far away, poor viewing sears are mainly there for the atmosphere and also to say they were there to set the attendance record. Why not keep the court where it is at, but put up large screens behind the bleachers and around the non-courtside of the Dome? The screens will "televise" the game, although they might not be able to see the court very well or at all, they are still in the Dome for the atmosphere and to say they were there to set a new record. Charge a low amount for these seats.

I'd rather do this for GTown than Duke, the first time we play them OOC
That's what I said in one of the other threads. Especially if there is a break of a year or two and Georgetown is any good.
