SU Playing in Players Era NIL Tournament in Vegas in 2025

Could someone explain how this format works? 18 teams playing two games to determine a championship game and 3rd place game. Do they just take the teams that won 2 games and use scoring differential to determine the top 2 teams? Seems like a weird format
according to wikipedia:

The event features a round-robin format that ensures all teams will face one another. Then, a champion will be crowned based on head-to-head record, with a series of tiebreakers including point differential, points scored and points allowed.

part in bold is wrong

in my humble opinion the flyer should not be allowed to call it "mens championship"

basically it isnt a tournament ...its a "festival" lol

wacky format...but all that matters is that teams get some good games vs quality comp

its basically a bunch of teams all in the same location playing against each other but its not a tournament lolol

I had thought that a 3rd game was guaranteed in this tournament. But, as I read this article that I came across while looking for a bracket, it seems that the third day games are picked by TV.

As i read this, there will only be 2 games on the third day, for 1st and 3rd place games. The teams will be selected based on their records in the first 2 games, with 2-0 teams getting in before 1-1 teams, regardless of who they played. But you imagine that TV will pick the teams who looked best for a double header, and it looks like that's it.

Let me know if you think I'm reading this wrong.

its not a tournament. its a festival.

made for tv

i know ncaabb is all about tourneys but this isnt one.

just consider it a way to get 3 quality non con games

So obviously we know our first 2 games like everyone else. 9 winners day 1 and 9 winners day 2.

The 2-0 teams will likely play day 3 for 1st-4th place.

Everyone else gets tossed into buckets of 1-1 teams and then 0-2 teams.

Things get trickier if there’s a ton of 1-1 teams with MoV and scores and whatnot.

Rutgers or ND and UNLV seem to be the only teams that may be outclassed that are 75+kenpom now. ~10 teams that are 25-50ish in kenpom and us a little higher.

~5 contenders in Houston and a few others.

Either way for us it’s 2 Q1 games and even going 0-2 I think it’s a coin flip whether we end up with another Q1 game or a Q2. Gonna be alot of games to watch that week.

Interesting thing I saw is that there appears to be consolation games Thursday too which means Thanksgiving game.

We have only played number one two times since entering the ACC. Duke twice in 2019. We split with them. Before that was a win at Louisville in 2013 where we won. Virginia and UNC were never 1 when we have played them in the ACC.

Ah yeah remember that win at the Ville. That was a fun one.

Have to keep the big picture in mind for that week. The run out in Vegas is going to be tougher competition than almost any other ACC team will see in the NonCon. There’s a lot of young guys on this team still even though they aren’t acting like it now.

6 freshman and Sophomores getting play now, they’re going to grow up real fast against Houston and Kansas. Can only help for the rest of the season.

Just a random stat after both Houston and Syracuse blew out two cupcakes each.

Syracuse had a miserable .2d6 3 point shooting percentage in their first two games, good for 278th in the country.

Houston had a 3 pt percentage of .283, somehow even worse.

Syracuse opponents shot .073 from three point range, good for a mere 1st in the country.

Houston was good too, holding opponents to only .212, 27th.

Another random stat... Houston's team TS% was .515. Syracuse's team overall Shooting percentage is .554!

It's going to be a rock fight, but one we could win.
