Thought I would give a follow-up on my post from prior to yesterday's game. The team lost to the reigning NCAA champions Notre Dame 1-0, but played to their level all game, at no point looking overmatched.

As the title might tell you, the energy of the crowd was excellent, with the attendance record set last season bested by over 600 fans. The SU players came over towards the students behind the goal and gave them a rounding ovation at the start of the second half and postgame to thank them for showing up.

It's great that another SU program can compete at the highest level with the reigning national champions and #4 team in the country. Syracuse was ranked #20 coming into last night, and was 4-0-0. Possibly due to the Daryl Gross effect, but team improvement and fan involvement were fantastic, and even friends of mine who aren't very into soccer came solely for the atmosphere and left impressed.

Would definitely recommend the highlights below, firstly to see the beautiful jerseys our soccer team has, some of the best an SU team has to offer, and secondly to get a glimpse of the crowd (for those of you unfamiliar with the stadium, there are metal bleachers along one side of the field, and there is a hill behind the net, where students were encouraged to #PackTheHill, along with the overflow of fans unable to fit in the bleachers.).

Is that Coyne Field?

SU also beat Akron in an exhibition game. Akron often visits the soccer Final 4. The team is looking good!

The game is on ESPN3, I believe. Watched the second half and the team absolutely deserved better.
Fifteen(!) corner kicks for SU and no goals, that's bad. ND seemed to be bend but don't break, because we seemed to dominate possession.

Our striker Emil Ekblom is from Norway and was Second Team All-ACC as a freshman last year. He seemed to be just missing all night, including almost connecting on a bicycle kick.

Alex Bono is out Junior keeper and he played great in net as he has all season. Our own Timmy Howard.

(Just trying to give some team info for the people who don't follow, whoever they may be)

Great to see the soccer team start to get such excellent support. Crowd looked/sounded great on the highlight video. McIntyre is building something special. We should be tourney bound at least this year and next (until Bono leaves).

I don't know what the freshman goalie is like, but when Alex decided to come back and not sign with the Revolution, his backup transferred to Canisius.

I don't know much about the SU soccer team. Where do most of the recruits come from? Is CNY a big high school soccer region? I know in NE Ohio with Akron, they get a bunch of players from local high schools which are powerhouse teams. CVCA, Walsh Jesuit, Hudson, Copley, Brecksville/Broadview Hts, etc. Some foreign/exchange students as well like the kid from Norway on SU.

HS soccer in CNY is quite good. I think it usually produces a couple of high level D1 kids each year. SU is getting their share these days...playing in the high profile ACC helps a lot.

They also have some kids from Norway and Finland, some kids from Canada, some others from around NYS and a few from the surrounding states, mostly NJ, CT and PA. It is an interesting mix.

Was impressed by the quality of play from the SU players. They played hard, did a good job controlling the ball and held their own against a terrific ND team this weekend.

Gotcha. Thanks. Yeah, Akron always has a few kids from Croatia and/or Eastern Europe as well it seems.

I'm kind of surprised you have horizontal stripes on your unis rather than vertical ones, like the European teams have.

The SU jerseys are some of the neatest I've ever seen. Love those stripes.
