SU Targeting Robert Anae as New OC / Jason Beck as New QB Coach per Thamel and ESPN

I want Hoo's That take on these guys...will he give his blessing to these potential hires?
Beck is the real deal. Virtually everyone on our board wants Elliott to hire Beck as the OC. Benkert's (backup to Rogers with the Packers), Perkins', and Armstrong's performance in college are viewed as directly resulting from Beck's coaching.

Take this with a grain of salt from someone who has liked only one UVa OC (Bill Musgrave) since 1969, Anae can be an enigma. Some games and plays are masterpieces and some are jaw-dropping head-scratchers. One thing to keep in mind about the rushing yardage we amass, a bunch of it is from the QBs. Obviously, we don't have a RB of the same caliber as Tucker, so the QB pulled the ball and ran himself quite often in the run-pass option (RPO) offense. But with Perkins and Armstrong, that was a really, really viable option.

Very interesting, if true, this is huge for our program! QB development, offensive play calling on a high level, familiarity with ACC defenses, recruiting and the possibility of UVA player transfers.
Recruiting of high level QB’s and the Hawaiian connection and another article recently spoke to how the U of Hawaii Coach was running off his players by treating them so shabbily. A veritable sea of possibilities!

Appreciate your take. you have to realize at SU we will be happy if the guy can just get the plays in without wasting 2 TOs after a TV timeout:)

The Wiki is incorrect Marques Hagans (a former UVa QB) has been the WR coach all along under Bronco.
The UVa web site says Anae coaches (coached) inside receivers and TEs.

Maybe Hagans focused on outside WRs and Anae on inside WRs? Dino has split up coaching WRs at SU among 2 coaches like this in the past...

just getting plays in faster would help things along.. although calling the plays becomes harder when you dont trust the oline to block the wrs to catch and the qb to make a decent throw..

Having a competent, quality OC will help in BOTH regards.
Upgrading the offensive coaches and the special team coaches on paper seems like a walk off home run. Ok, maybe not a walk off but hopefully at least a two run shot.

In the grand scheme of updating our facilities, hows our coaches box in the dome for coordinators? From the stands it looks laughable. Is that part of the renovation stage 2 plans?

It is brutal… to have to walk through the fans and down the stairs/through the corridor at half is not only tough but could be considered a liability exposure.

Outside of moving them down to the suite area, I’m not sure what the fix could/would be.

I walked by Scott Shafer when he came back a couple years ago, that’s a tough spot to be in for him.

So? Most of the folks on here are crazy. ;)
What… what??? I’m not crazy. I just love Syracuse!!!

Anae and UVA quarterbacks coach Jason Beck have worked together for the past eight seasons and quarterbacks have thrived under the pairing. Between 2013 and 2020, quarterbacks under Anae and Beck have averaged 3,200 passing yards and 524 rushing yards a season for an average of 3,725 yards of total offense.

Anae’s offense broke five team records in 2019, which includes most first downs (296), first downs passing (180), completions (337), passing yards (3,748) and points scored (449). UVA also tied the 1990 team for most touchdowns (56), while Anae’s offense in 2019 averaged 33.2 points per game, which is No. 2 all-time to UVA’s 1990 team. UVA amassed over 5,000 yards of total offense in both 2018 and 2019 under Anae, which marks only the second time in program history UVA has done that in back-to-back seasons. Prior to Anae’s arrival UVA only surpassed 5,000 yards of total offense four times.
Just as importantly, Anae's had lots of offensive success without a bunch of 4 and 5 star guys. He can develop guys-That's what we need.
Having said that, let's grab these 2 and then grab the best recruiter possible for our last coaching spot and call it a day.

If your OC and DC are super good with an excellent staff who needs a head coach? These are the two positions that make things happen. Head coach is a ra ra cheerleader, a TEAM coordinator?

Yes. Anae coached Woods, Thompson, and Kemp, while Hagans coached the others, notably Wicks, Starling, and Henry.

Another dumb narrative is that Tommy wasn’t good here because he was a pocket passer and we can’t succeed with one.

A good OC can win with either as demonstrated all over CFB.
Very true except it's very difficult to teach or"fix" what's missing in TD's arsenal.

So - guys with their track record can probably lure a quality QB from the portal, who they can work with.

Also - why not both??
Have them coach up Shrader, AND also bring in a portal QB to compete with him.

So good points and I think we have instant offense credibility if this OC hire goes down. I would hope that correlates to perhaps pulling an established WR or two from the portal to augment our young talent.
Has Harris signed with anyone? He could always come back.

Even a great OC can only scheme so much around a bad offensive line with limited WR weapons.

And with a bad offensive time and limited time to throw, I doubt Tommy would have been successful anyway.
