Syracuse University will welcome back to campus student-athletes who are beginning voluntary training on June 8 to prepare for a competitive fall schedule. This includes members of the football team, some of whom will be among the first student-athletes to return to campus. These training sessions are only voluntary, as football training camp doesn't begin until Aug. 5. Training will look very different this year, guided by an operational plan developed to protect and safeguard the well-being of student-athletes, coaches, staff and members of the broader Central New York community.

Wonder what’s going to happen with missed spring practices ????

I’m wondering if the NCAA will let camp open early to mid July except programs that got spring ball completed.

theres talk of allowing a 6 week timeframe to make up for spring

No groups of more than 10 still, correct?
Governor's Executive Order 202.36, adopted today, gives this vague guidance:

"Any region that meets the prescribed public health and safety metrics as determined by the Department of Health for Phase One reopening may allow outdoor, low-risk recreational activities and businesses providing such activities, as determined by Empire State Development Corporation, to be permitted to operate, in accordance with Department of Health guidance."

Central New York meets the Phase One metrics. But is football practice an outdoor, low-risk recreational activity? What if the team practices inside the Ensley Center? It seems that the Governor has left it up to the ESDC to answer those questions.

Hopefully the defensive players can be grouped together so they can try and learn the new scheme together.

My guess is football still falls into phase 4 sports/education. Voluntary workouts may fall into low risk, recreational activity.

Looks like 3 oklahoma players, and 4 Marshall players/staff tested positive. Any others? This will be interesting, from an asymptomatic perspective.

He’s ridiculous. No one is getting sick from the 99.9% peaceful gatherings we see on the news of thousands of fellow citizens shoulder to shoulder. And most of the time it only takes 2-3 days for symptoms to show up when you catch it so folks would be getting it by now.

Considering the demographics of CFB players anyone suggesting denying them access to their teammates (essentially their second family) and the sport they love when the risks to themselves individually are so low is being an idiot.

So, someone gets the virus and you think they just go full sick like 28 Days Later? It's usually 5-6 days, and as long as two weeks. 2-3 happens, but it doesn't happen often.

Apparently, you haven't been reading anything but your own posts around here for the last couple months.

People are getting sick from the protests.

Edit I don’t want to get into this I’m too sad to argue.
Please everyone just let our student athletes get on with things.

I think we were. It's difficult for some of us to not point out inaccuracies. Thanks for the edit. ;-)

While you may disagree with Riley, there was valuable information in the article... Didnt realize an Iowa state player tested positive. Also, its believed they cant actually play football 'til July 15

Not many teams returned June 1
Marshall: 4 positive(with staff)
Oklahoma State : 3 positive
Iowa State: 1 positive

Many return June 8(entire SEC),June 15. Interesting if the results are similar... and then we see how to get on to football. Obviously, we all hope they can safely get back at it, ASAP.

If you are interested in trying to project what states are going to have the most problems around the time football season starts, 358 has state by state projections here.

You have to scroll down a bit. The projections only go to early July but from looking at them quickly, it appears the Big Ten is probably going to be most at risk. There are a lot of states several models project problems for.

The SEC isn't far behind.

Couple these projects with the fact that the B1G has all cold weather schools (you could consider Maryland warm; but I don't think it will have the warmth needed to discourage COVID in the winter) and I would be very concerned about having anyone in the stands for any B1G game for football or basketball this year. Heck, I would be very surprised if they are able to have classes on campus in many of their states.

I would say the ACC generally is in relatively good shape. If there is going to be a problem, it looks like it is probably going to be with Clemson (and South Carolina as a whole).

Too bad. You don't get to say things that are patent lies or the world as you want it to be, then edit your post and say "Can't we all just get along?"

What you removed is false. In the vast majority of cases, becoming symptomatic is NOT usually in 2-3 days. As I said, it is usually 5-6. In few cases, 2-3 or 7-14.

Here is just one of many easily-found sites with this information. Do a little research before you casually claim things that are not true.
.

I think the important part here, is that they are all testing. Minus Arkansas, that will only test if you look like you have it, iirc. (I guess they can see that "coronavirus look".. lol) Have to assume there could be similar results, elsewhere.

With testing coming in, I would think(hope) a comprehensive plan, coming in, could manage it. A, not so subtle, reminder for the players, and how they need to handle themselves socially. Hopefully a "clean" summer, after that.

It may help dictate the NCAA in season testing policy. Widespread, comprehensive testing may also help shed light on the asymptomatic side of things, as I know of no other such data from 10,000 plus tests. Doing this in small, quarantined groups, with safeguards, could offer a more scientific pathway for how all academics are handled in the fall.

Are we sure that SU football hasn’t returned yet? Or at least on a limited basis?

Cooper Dawson just posted a photo on his insta story in the locker room saying “first day of conditioning.” It appears he has a knee brace on which would indicate it is from this season...

Maybe maybe not but Dawsom also tore his ACL I believe in HS.
