SWC is gone

In memory of Steve. A handful will remember this.

So sad to hear this. Steve was so gracious the few interactions I had with him. Even allowing me to contribute to one of his Syracuse history lessons here. God got himself a great man. Happy he had his loved ones close and was able to go the way he wanted. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

Yes, I just opened my email and his friend Fran told me but gave me no details. I asked her if someone was with him? I hope she writes back. I am sure she is very sad.

The sad thing for me is that I only got to visit him one time and could only read him about 25 tributes. I wondered at the time if he could take them in, although he did chuckle a couple times so I think he did. I was going to go this morning. When I called yesterday Fran was with him and said he was too tired from visitors.

Steve, you were not able to hear all your tributes about how you were appreciated, admired, and honored but now that you are on the other side - which you don’t believe in - you will be able to feel them in full!

What a hole he will leave in this board.
Thank you so much for doing what you did for him. As we all know Steve is in a better place now. Sad for everyone on this board to have lost such a wonderful part of our community.

SWC died last night (3/17) at 9:30.

Steve passed as he had wished. He fell asleep and didn't wake up.

For the past few weeks, there has been some discomfort but no significant pain. He has been in and out of sleep for the last several days.

Sad news and so sorry to hear.

On an aside, and perhaps trivial in the realm, etc., I gave your post a red thumbs down (dislike) vs. the sad face (don't like) as the later one apparently subtracts from your like count per each one. IMO, certainly not fair to you for simply sharing such somber news.

I've never met or talked to SWC/Steve but I'm very sad to hear of his passing.

I am so thankful to Steve for all of his coach's radio show recaps and everything he contributed to this board. He was truly one of the main people responsible for Syracusefan.com being my favorite site.

I'm not sure I ever finished an "upside/downside" post, but I read the coach's show question and recaps, every word, all the way through. I even reveled in his editorial "re-ordering". Steve was a great contributor and he will be missed. God's Speed and Peaceful Journey.

I never met him but this is just sobering news - will be missed forever on this forum. Prayers to all who knew him.
It's very sad, but he was probably in pain. I'm choked up and tearing and although we never met, I feel like I lost a good friend.

Being from out of town I never listened to the coaches show on the radio, but one time I did, and his recap was almost court stenographer accurate. He had a sharp memory and an incredible attention to detail.

His recaps, upside/downside and net points were fantastic and the IGGY COMMITTEE is already considering a Net Point category next season.

But my favorite were his preseason letters he wrote. Lots of heart and passion went into them. I believe he worked for the SSA, and was probably a stellar employee, but I think he missed a huge calling doing something with all of the information that he carried around in his head.

I may have only recently officially "joined" here, but have lurked for years and years.
Think I read nearly every word of every post Steve made, and heard him often on the radio, to the point where it seemed like he was vicariously family. The past couple years I've seen far too many friends and family struggle with cancer, and not all could beat it...

!#*%Cancer.
