Sweet Sassey Molassey ESPN Hates Syracuse

True, but our OOC schedule has been fine. No need to downplay our ranking based on the schedule. Stanford will be ranked soon and Florida was #9 when we beat them. Do they want us to play 6 or 7 ranked teams in the OOC each year?

Well, more than 1 would be nice. And not always in the Dome or MSG.

Btw, I am harping on the schedule, but the stuff about us not having a dominating player or whatever seems pretty weak.

If we start taking care of our business better in March, the media won't go looking for ways to chastise our OOC schedule.

Syracuse doesn't field a dominating playmaker and has risen to the top despite only one victory over a Top 25 team. The Orange also lack a high-profile matchup in the near future.
They beat then-No. 9 Florida 72-68 on Dec. 2, but don't play a Top 25 team again until Jan. 7, when they host No. 11 Marquette (9-0).

Sounds to me like they are annoyed that if we take care of business we will stay on top for some time.
It is more impressive that they have so many guys that can step up. A team with a "dominating playmaker" might get beat easily if the other team can figure how to shut down the "dominating player".

FWIW, in the Weekly Watch column, ESPN called Indiana's win at NC State in the ACC/Big 10 challenge "significant." I'll assume that when we win on Saturday, it will be called "pedestrian" or "uninspiring."

I really can't understand why you are reading the lack of a "Playmaker" as a negative. Go back and read it again and see if you can't see the fact that it's positive. We are doing very well without a "Playmaker." What's wrong with that?

As far as schedule, it is what it is. Not the strongest, but certainly not the weakest either.

I think any win on an opponent's home court is significant. If we beat NCSU, I don't think it will be poo pooed.

I have no problem with the first two lines. It's reality.

But the final paragraph - What - talk about going out of your way to minimize what's been a great start for a talented team.

I'm with Caddie on this. The first two lines I have no issue with. If anything, they add perspective and show how this has been able to focus and become stronger.

The last paragraph is pure BS. No way they EVER write that about Duke, UNC, UK, KU, OSU, etc. Hell, they would never have written that about Louisville if they were there. They would be lauding Louisville for playing without some key guys.

UNC beat a mediocre Mich St team, beat a solid Wisc team, lost to a really good UK team and lost to a not so good UNLV team. I would equate their Wisc win to our win over Florida. Decent, but not great...right now. OSU beat Duke and lost to KU. Duke lost to OSU but beat an overrated KU team and an 'eh' Michigan team. UK beat UNC and KU but lost to a so-so Indiana squad. I don't see any of the other top 5 teams deserving of leapfrogging us. Everyone's schedule has positives and negatives.

If ESPN wants to play that game, though, I would argue that they should give KU the number one spot based on SOS alone. Who cares that they've lost 2 games. They lost to Duke and UK, so that really shouldn't count against them, right? And they beat OSU. So, Ohio State. ;)

THe win itself wont be poo pooed, but if we win that game espn next monday will say something like "syracuse maintains its #1 ranking despite playing only 1 true road game so far", or some bs like that. The media/experts always take unncecessary shots at our schedule. Some posted in another thread about the bcs teams that duke and kansas have played so far. Well i remember last year we didnt get any credit for beating michigan and georgia tech, it was more like "yea theyre bcs teams but they both suck", even though michigan did turn out to be a tourny team. People even took shots that those games were in AC, like "syracuse doesnt play a game outside of new york/new jersey until january" LOL

Louisville's SOS right now is #136 and theyre the #4 team in the country, but do you hear anyone saying a peep about their schedule? Nope. If somehow the top 3 teams lose this week and louisville is ranked #1 next week do you think espn will mention their schedule so far? No way.

I think that is fair. I do think people will focus more on the schedule if Lville makes it to #1, but I also think the average media person focuses more on our schedule because we have a reputation for scheduling soft. So it does become part of the story.

OSU also beat Florida
