Maybe we could also go the Big Ten route. Games against AA teams don't count toward bowl eligibilty. I know most teams would probably just schedule an Group of Five game instead, but I think overall, it would be a tougher game to win. Add another game in conference and have at least one OOC game against a P5 school. It's not perfect, but I think it would make for significantly stronger schedules overall.

Most schools lose money on bowls, especially the ones featuring 6 and 7 win teams, while the bowl committees and TV make money off them. But a school can't decline going. As much as they like the exposure and the extra practice, I'm sure they hate losing money more.

The ACC can't do this unilaterally, but I could see a movement to reset the bar at 7 wins and kill off a dozen or so bowls.

This. They also don't like how bowls can select teams. Like "rewarding" Pitt with a crappy bowl and getting jumped by two teams.

I really don't understand why the NCAA doesn't just let all schools practice through the first week of January, bowl participant or not. More than two-thirds of FBS is going to be doing that this year anyway, what is the harm in letting the other one-third do it as well?

Well, I do understand, because the NCAA are incompetent, illogical buffoons. But still.
