may never have had nicer kids playing hoops, however this is a big time business and we haven’t been competive in the ACC since we joined, we’ve been a middling team. I’ve been watching since 1971 when Greg “kid” Kohls was shooting 30 foot jumpers well before they were worth 3 points…..the basketball world has changed since then and our coach is unwilling to change and is stuck in the dreaded zone rut……we need athletes who can play something besides the zone. Every school is using his advanced age against him and our assistant coaches don’t have the dynamic personalities to sell the program and bring in the high level athletes we need to compete at the top level. It saddens me to see so many of my friends who have given up their seasons tickets and rarely even watch them on tv anymore.

…… Every school is recruiting over him and our assistant coaches have no personality to bring in the recruits we need and are nothing but yes men to our dinosaur. It saddens me to see so many of my friends and family who gave up their seasons tickets who could care less any longer about our beloved team…..
I watch the games closely, I still have not once seen the tv camera catch JB talking with any assistants during the games this year. I noticed he has the young guy tracking stats next to him and then usually Benny next to him on the bench. For folks who sit near the bench, do the assistants talk with JB at all during the game? People have brought it up and I noticed it, it looks like an unhealthy working relationship.

As long as I can remember, JB has hardly ever talked to assistants during games. We are one of the very few teams in the country (post Bernie Fine) where the assistants don’t sit directly next to the head coach on the bench.

Please tell me that you don't have a degree from Syracuse University...

Body language is terrible also. Seems really bad. Only Boeheim’s chair gets a label. Assistant coaches have to fight 18-23 year olds in their primes for chairs. Super troubling.

It's too bad your friends have given up their tickets. Maybe they expect the team to go 40-0 every year. Part of being a fan is living through all the peaks and valleys. Fortunately for the Syracuse program there have been more highs than lows. Are your friends Syracuse football fans? How about Bills, Giants or Jets? How about the Knicks? I know I will enjoy it when my teams reach the top because I have been there throughout the journey. Otherwise you just jump on the bandwagon when it's convenient. That's not what true fans do.

No I don’t……I couldn’t afford the overpriced degree from Syracuse. I went to SUNY Geneseo where the ratio was 3:1, girls to guys…..my lowly state school education allowed me to retire in my mid 50’s……I think I did okay sport!

Honestly, it is getting harder to emotionally invest in Syracuse football/basketball. Almost any pro team has a shot at a championship; Syracuse has functionally no shot at a football championship and the trend of college sports makes me question if we're trending away from a reasonable chance at a basketball championship.

Its not just being in a valley that matters; its that its reasonable to doubt the peaks will be as high as they were in the 90s/early 2000's.

yes. the fact that former equipment manager bernie fine sat next to JB with a clipboard for 35 years tells you how much he relies on assistant coach input during any game. great seats for the game but they basically sit and chew gum. the smart ones like pitino , welsh , orr and hopkins (finally) move on and find real jobs elsewhere.
