I read it as his opinion and not anything the BE was thinking of.

Hey Dick.

That's all. Just hey dick.

BC played in the BET during their lame duck year, and they were a win away from representing the BE in the BCS.

He said the BE 'should' keep them out of the BET, not 'will'. Really, if they insist on keeping us in the BE, then we are members and can't really be prohibited from playing. Now, if they want to let us out early...

I don't have access to the Big East bylaws, but I imagine if the BE said Syracuse had to remain in the Big East but wouldn't be permitted to actually compete, there would be a hell of an argument that the conference was breaching whatever contractual arrangement it has with the member schools.

Exactly. They can't have it both ways. Either we're in or we're out. Not a hybrid

Actually the CAA in 2001-2002 when John Beilein coached Richmond the Spiders were banned from the Conference Tournament because they were moving to the Atlantic 10 and so even though they won the regular season title they didn't get into the NCAA tournament even though they couldn't participate for the automatic bid from the CAA. So it wouldn't be unprecedented but if the Big East did Syracuse should never play another Big East team again.

I would actually like to see them do that this year (excepting for the moment that I actually like seeing them participate in the BET). SU really should have no problem gaining an at large bid this season. If the BE precluded them from competing in the conference tournament I think it would present them with a great argument for just walking away and commencing play in the ACC next season.

first off, jb and dixon should make sure that hoops is cut off. Secondly, uconn can only bring so many people to MSG. Without cuse and pitt, tumbleweeds will be rolling down the aisles.

Sounds good. We wouldn't owe a penny in exit fees. Your move BE

If the BE does not let Cuse and Pitt into the BET then they probably will set themselves up for losing the $5M exit fee. Might not be a bad trade for Cuse and Pitt.

Dick Weiss has no idea what is going on at all in any sport.

Umm how is it even the BET without Syracuse? We are the the BE . . . . . . . or were . . . . . .

There is a real danger to the Big East if Syracuse and Pitt finish 1-2 in the league but are not allowed in the Big East Tournament that the legitimacy of the tourney would be questionable. The man on the street would feel like he was watching to see who was the third best team in the league, which he probably won't waste his time with.

The right thing to do is act professionally, not like a junior high girl that just got dumped. I'm baffled why so many people seem to think acting petty and vindictive will play out well in the long run.

He said the idea wasn't his. If it came from Providence too funny. And it's so stupid and needlessly vindictive that it probably did.

If SU and Pitt were bared fromthe BET, and still got in the NCAA, I would say there is an arguement there that any earnings gained from the NCAA would NOT have to be shared with the BE since the BE "indangered" there selection and seeding by keeping them out of the BET. IE if either team was a "bubble" team that could have needed BET wins to qualify but got in just because other teams lost.

The Big East can't keep us out of the tournament, Weiss prints a column and doesn't even use his head. If the Big East tryed to keep us out of the tournament, they can be sued for breach of contract by ESPN and more importantly Madison Square Garden who they definately don't want to offend.

In other news The Big East wants to Sue Memphis for turning them down for the Conference USA.

Also Hawaii is in talks with the "Newer Big East" to join as a football only.

Hoops Weiss is saying the Big East could restrict us from participating in Conference Championship Events such as the Big East Conference Basketball Tournament and BCS bid. If the Big East did this I would be all for NEVER playing a single Big East school again, and I will go to BE headquarters in Providence and tell them what Dick Cheney said to Patrick Leahy.

I think Weiss might be getting poisoned by the fumes of the chemicals used to clean his toupée .

I imagine the networks would have quite a bit to say on this matter. No Pitt or SU means significantly reduced interest in the tournament, deletion of a few 'premium' games, and diminished advertising revenue. They would certainly 'encourage' a re-think of that stance.

Aside from breach of contract by the BE (either you're a member or you're not) this just tremendously lowered my opinion of Weiss.
