Syracuse and Pitt could be out of BET

He said the idea wasn't his. If it came from Providence too funny. And it's so stupid and needlessly vindictive that it probably did.

I agree that it could have come from Providence, home of a dull brained commissioner who should be let go.

I can't even imagine how they would pull this off. If they wait until the season is over and then disallow Syracuse and Pitt to play, how do they compensate the Syracuse and Pitt fans that bought flights/hotels rooms/etc and now would be coming to a tournament their school isn't at? Then the fiasco the league created becomes the story of the tournament regardless how good the basketball is, and the league looks like crap as a result. SO the other option is to go nuclear and announce now that you'll prevent Syracuse and Pitt from playing in the tournament...and you just created a storyline for the entire season for the league that makes the league look petty and vindictive (and who knows what legal issues they would bring upon themselves). And regardless how they got there, MSG and ESPN would be irate that two of the biggest draws/best teams weren't at the tournament.

My solution would be that the Big East hire some competent leadership and act like grown-ups. If I was Providence or Seton Hall I'd want everyone to know that I'm the grown-up in the room, because they're going to need all the friends they can get to stay even marginally relevant in college basketball over the next few years. Keeping Syracuse and Pitt out of the tournament shows everyone your the five year old having a temper tantrum.

They're not going to "pull this off". Dick Weiss threw it into his column as an idea. It's not going to happen.

Why, no conference administration in their right minds would ever consider a bone-headed, vindictive, short-sighted, & spiteful move like.....oh, wait...its Moronatto & Providence? Never mind.

It's more a money issue. Without 'Cuse or Pitt the BET is weakened to the point that ESPN steps in. Vindictiveness aside, the BET will be played with all schools. My belief is that money will prevail over pettiness.

Not totally sure about that. Can't imagine the ratings would be that different.

My belief is that money will prevail over pettiness.

I'm not really sure there is anything to prevail over.

Theres got to be a law against this somewhere if someone actually bothered to take the time to refute this not happening stupidity.

Its one thing to leave which you could probably win alittle bit of money over. Its another to plain out cheat a school that is deserving which you could probably sue the crap out of the conference for doing so.
