Syracuse Basketball - Full Game Links

Threads like this, with proper sources, should be perma-pinned. Football side, too, but there is (unfortunately) not as much content.

The Pinstripe Bowl vs WVU is on YouTube in it's entirety. I came across it last night.

I started this thread with the hope it would be pinned and added to. I have several old school SU games on VHS and, yes, Beta, that I would love to get on my computer and uploaded. If someone could post a How-To on transferring the video to computer, we may start a revolutionary thread. :)

You don't have to transfer from vcr...
Go here: http://keepvid.com/
Find video on youtube, copy its web address
Paste into the area on keepvid and you will be able to save it to your pc.

Those who'd like to download additional games in HD (typically 720p) should head to kickass.to and - obviously - type "Syracuse" into the search box. Make sure to close out of any popups as they arise. I believe all games have commercials edited out. If you need a client, I recommend utorrent, found at http://www.utorrent.com/.

You can of course download the games PeteCalvin has linked on youtube using download helper, found at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/. This add on is very effective for downloading videos from a kaleidoscopic array of sites, but at present it works only in firefox.

Hope these tips are helpful, and thanks to PeteCalvin for the links - the Notre Dame game in particular. Watching Grant pack Cooley makes me happy.

The leeches on some of those games intimidates me. I'd like to re-watch the Michigan game. Any idea if that's a safe torrent?

Edit: What is the difference between leechers and seeders? Are they still safe to download if leechers are higher?

Edit 2: I'm downloading the Michigan game now. Should be okay getting it onto my computer!

I thought YouTube was limited to 15 minute uploads. Did they change their policy or offer some premium service? Regardless, I'm surprised these haven't been flagged for TOS violations.

It's gotta first make the transition from analog to digital. A dual VHS-DVD recorder will transfer the games to DVD format. Then you just need to pop it in your computer and rip the files to mpeg or similar format. I use a program called VideoRedo, but you could probably find some freeware out there. Once it's in an mpeg file, simply upload it to youtube, but a full game could take hours to upload.

As for converting ESPN3, Youtube, or other online video to DVD, a program called Replay Media Catcher is highly effective.

Its funny, I independently found these yesterday and watched the Arkansas and Louisville games. Both were great.

Some take aways now that it is not the heat of the season:
1. I still feel that MCW has not quite figured out to be the best he can be. If he had stayed, I am certain he would have been one of the best players in SU history this year. His decision to leave obviously was the right one financially, but I still have concerns he will be able to stick in the league. I hope he does, otherwise is best basketball will be played in smoke filled gyms in Croatia instead of the Carrier Dome or an NBA arena.
2. Coleman: during the season - his absolutely terrible defense blinded me with rage so I had a hard time seeing anything good about his game. The dude truly is a beast and rebounds with extreme force. I have very high hopes that he will have calmed down on offense and learned how to play zone this year. He will be a major force inside if so.
3. Grant. I remember being so impressed with him at the time and I'm even more impressed now. When Southerland returned, Grant almost completely lost his confidence and was a shadow of himself. I believe he will be full of confidence this year and will be an all-ACC selection (maybe not first team, but he will be recognized).

Good questions. My comments:

1. The Michigan torrent is safe - I downloaded it myself. In general torrents are now quite safe; the days of the highly virulent limewire downloads are fortunately behind us. Kickass.to in particular fosters a community that checks torrents for both safety and quality. You'll see a number of comments posted verifying (or criticizing) the quality (or shortcomings) of specific torrents, and there's a thumbs up/down "counter" that is a good indicator of file quality. The only torrents that give me pause with regard to safety are .exe (applications) - but again, the kickass.to community does your due diligence for you.

2. "Leechers" refers to the number of online users currently downloading the file - thus they are leeching off the folks who are "seeders". Seeders refers to the number of online users who have already downloaded the complete file and are now making it available via their utorrent (or similar) client (program). Most popular torrents will always have a ratio of leech:seed greater than one. This indicates that a few kind users who got the file early are now making it available, and not surprisingly a high number of users want to get the file. You'll often see leech:seed ratios greater than 2. The ratio has no impact on safety - only speed. Seed:leech ratios closer to one will be faster downloads. If you find a torrent that has no seeds, it will take a very long time to download in its entirety; in fact it may be impossible because even the collective set of leechers may be missing bits of the file.

In sum, I wouldn't be concerned about safety if you're downloading videos from kickass.to. I've downloaded several terabytes (literally) of files ranging from .exe to .pdf to any number of video formats. Best of luck with download speeds and feel free to let me know if you'd like advice on tips to max out download speed using utorrent.

Okay so I used UTorrent and it downloaded just fine. The default program it was going to use to open it was Windows Movie Maker (very odd). So I went and tried to open it with Windows Media Player. It came up as an audio file, and now I can't get the footage in either program. Don't remember the file type, but I found it strange that it came up as that file.

I clicked on "Download Torrent" under "Sharing Widget." I usually use The Pirate Bay so I'm not use to using kickass.to

Most of the games I have from torrents are in an uncommon video file type (.mkv). I downloaded VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html), which I feel has compatibility with more file types than any other program I've seen

ROCcuse has it right: download VLC player and it will handle almost every video file type you throw at it.

WRT downloading on kickass.to, I usually click on the magnet icon. This automatically engages utorrent which opens up and asks you to confirm you want to d/l the file. I personally find this most convenient.
