SU has no one in the top 50 in scoring or rebounding and are not in the top 50 in 3 pt field goals made or 3pt fg %. We are also not in the top 50 in FT% or rebound margin.

We are, however,#4 in scoring differential our offensive output ranks us at #14 and scoring defense at 32. In addition we are #15 in field goal%, #20 in FG% defense, #19 in assists, #8 in assist to turnovers. We are #3 in blocked shots, #1 in steals per game, 31 in turnover margin, #18 in least turn overs. We are also #10 in least fouls made

A few individual rankings, Dion Waiters is #48 in FG%, Fab Melo is #10 in blocked shots and Dion is #47 in steals.

In game high stats Melo is tied for #1 in shots blocked in a game with 10 ( PJ Roberson from Grambling)

Here is a number statistic left out (Sorry OE) ... SU is #1 in both polls and 15-0 for the season. The problem with many of those individual statistics is that they are made by kids who play like 36'/game against weak sisters. SU players are averaging around ... what ... 20 minutes/game? When you play 10 kids pretty consistently the averages for everybody will "suffer" individually b/c the kids won't be on the floor making the steals; blocking the ball; etc. I would rather have the kids playing as a team rather than as individuals trying to make statistics: i.e. Hazell for Seton Hall last year.

Who are the nine guys ahead of Fab, and do they play against midgets? Fab's numbers are phenomenal. I can't believe there are 9 dudes ahead of him.

The guy leading the pack is Pay Pal Cal's big catch of last years recruiting wars Anthony Davis who is averaging 4.6 blocks per game in 28.9 minutes a game. Then the following players are next before Fab

2 C.J. Aiken, Saint Joseph's So. 6-9 14 games 59 blocks 4.2
3 Damian Eargle, Youngstown St. Jr. 6-7 13 games 53 blocks 4.1
4 Darrius Garrett, Richmond Sr. 6-9 15 games 60 blocks 4.0
5 William Mosley, Northwestern St. Sr. 6-7 C 14 games 52 blocks 3.7
6 Cameron Moore, UAB Sr. 6-10 12 games 43 blocks 3.6
7 Kendall Gray, Delaware St. Fr. 6-10 C 11 games 38 blocks 3.5
8 Peter 'PJ' Roberson, Grambling Jr. 7-0 C 10 games 33 blocks 3.3
9 John Henson, North Carolina Jr. 6-11 15 games 48 blocks 3.2

Fab's minutes are lower than a lot of those guys. He's second in the country in block%.

At least no road game at Pitt. That was worth at least 25 fouls and a 25-28 night at the line for Pitt.
Acknowledging that Dion only plays half the available minute, the guys ranked ahead of him must REALLY be defensive studs.

I hate these statistics b/c they are always so skewed. But for the sake of posterity SU is in top 20 in 11/15 statistical categories and 32nd in scoring defense. Similarly the individual statistics are so dependent on several variables inc. mpg and qualiity of competition. With JB playing 10 players/game (approx) that would obviously cut down on the opportunity to get more points, blocks, rebounds, assists, etc. Not 1 SU player averages over 30'/game and only 1 (KJo) averages over 25'/game. Let'smake some comparisons: Leaderin ppg is Damian Lillard (Weber State: 25.2 p/g) but averages 33.2'/game against a very weak sister schedule. Other ppg leaders include Terrell Soglin (Md: 31.6'/g), Kevin Jones (WVU: 36.8'/g), Will Barton (Memphis: 35.8 m/g). Let's take Blocked Shots (and Fab is up there despite limited m/g): Anthony Davis (UK: 28.9'/g- give the deil his due he is good); Dieng (L'ville: 30.9'/g), and Roberson (Grambling state: 29.7 m/g - in the worst conference in the world!! Grambling is 0-11). I guess what I am saying is that t is not surprising that our kids aren't higher on the list ... but I would rather have the best balanced 10 man team with the 2 most important statistics (#1 and 15-0) than have a high statistical star that you have to play for 35' to be competitive.

Well that explains and justifies why Ron Morris ranks us so low. How can SU claim to be the best team in the country if it doesnt even rank in the top 10 of half of the team categories that Orangeyes mentioned??

Per Pomeroy's stats Fab blocks about 1 in every 7 2 point shots attempted while he is on the floor, making him #2 in the nation to Manhattan's Rhamel Brown.
