Syracuse chancellor on Mike Hopkins: Now is not the time to say whether he'll succeed Jim Boeheim

At UConn, JC's chosen successor Kevin Ollie, wasn't given the job right away in the wake of sanctions.
Its understandable that they'd "delay" the formal announcement of Hop as HC, but anyone other than him would be a big mistake, IMO.
However, it wouldn't shock me to see him accept another gig now if offered. Bird in the hand and all that...

If the guys from the pod cast yesterday are right, nobody will want the job anyways. Syracuse is a deadend job in a nowhere place. Hopkins will be the best they can get.

At first, they only gave him a one year contract.

Since English is my third language, I'm trying my best to tell you what I think:

I hope Syverud is not the "undercover" who works for Gtown who ***s with us all the time!

We need Mike to be our next coach for another 42 years (39+3), period.

This is a PR move, they will announce Hop after the appeal is finalized.

Agreed

I am not a Syracuse grad, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but bashing the guy for anything he has done is way off, IMO

He INHERITED a problem, sought to appeal it (if he HADN'T appealed it we'd be going nuts that he just laid down for the NCAA

His public handling of this, again IMO, has been exceptional

We don't know what they've told Hopkins

We don't even know what they've told Boeheim, behind the scenes

All we know is what they've said PUBLICALLY about Boeheim has been over-the-top, unnecessarily supportive of the Coach, presumably based on the facts, but still that's taking the HARD ROAD here. The EASY ROAD for a University President would be sack all involved, declare the past the past and move on...

I'm just a layman and a fan who grew up there, but from my perspective the guy has NAILED this whole reaction and if anything has PRESERVED the likelihood that Hopkins CAN be a successful successor.
