Syracuse coach Scott Shafer has 'decided to part ways' with freshman Naesean Howard (PS)

I bet old Dominion will be in play.
Could be. They recruit upstate hard with their Rochester coaching connection.

I am guessing one of UB, UMass, UConn, Temple or Stony Brook. UB recruited him out of HS, so I make them the slight favorite.

@PhilDAbb
Shafer didn't have much more to add about Naesean Howard's departure from program except Shafer's "excited to part ways."

Well, that's an interesting way to put it. Maybe it's something that he's excited to move on from, if it has been taking a while to process.

No kidding. That article was awfully one sided / full of victim mentality perspective.

"He tried to do anything Shafer wanted him to do, but I guess he just was never in compliance and never could live up to the standard of what Shafer wanted from him."

What a joke. I'm sorry, but if your kid 's up, man up and admit it, and move on. Don't point fingers because he can't function in a program that 90+ other kids, many who don't have full rides, can.

nice article. talk about sour grapes wow.

Couple of questions - what time is curfew and what Syracuse churches have services that late night?

And what does this mean?

"but his father indicated he was unhappy with the opportunities to develop his skills, especially after running a low time in the 40-yard dash at the end of summer workouts."

low as in 4.4 or 4.9 ? would a 4.9 mean he wouldn't have opportunities? or lack of opportunity because he was pegged to redshirt out of the gate? I'm confused.

Further,

Shafer is quoted saying - ""in his best interests to try to find a place that can give him a shot early."

But then Daddy says:

""He wasn't too concerned about playing this year. That wasn't a big issue by him," Sean Howard said. "But he was more concerned about developing his relationship with the coaches and the team, and he said it just didn't work out. Everyone has their own agenda. He didn't feel needed."

It sort of reads to me like he wasn't happy redshirting, maybe wasn't that skilled and has been in trouble.

Agreed. I'm not speculating about what led to Nasean's troubles on the hill, but I seriously doubt that it was anything close to what the father described in that article.

I'm guessing that is some major league rationalization. Oh well...

I'm not going to add to the speculation, but sometimes it's better for everyone involved when the local "star" goes away to play. I give a lot of credit to people like Damien Rhodes and Brandon Triche who dealt with the added scrutiny and emerged at the end in good shape.

At the end of the day, this sounds like the best thing for both Howard and SU.

Wow! It amazes me how some parents make excuses for their children. It sounds like Mr. Howard could be part of the problem.

Bingo. The comments made by Sean Howard are bs. Even if I didn't have any background knowledge, do any of us really buy into Shafer using a kid strictly to recruit or suspending him because he attended a late night church service... Lol. Oh well, good luck Naesean!

This kid needs to get OUT of NYS, not stay in New York.

Sucks for us we lost our fastest (timed) player.
