What is the deal with the editors of Syracuse.Com? Last night they published an editorial that claimed a coed was sexually assaulted during the kiss cam. Now this morning they ran another editorial from a so called fan ripping the coaching staffs ability to call plays on offense and defense.

What a great way to gets fans excited about the football program by running two negative editorials about 24 hours before kickoff.

This does not happen in other college towns. I decided to do the only thing I can by cancelling my gold level subscription to the Post Standard and ePost Standard this morning.

As much as we bitch about attendance, they are a serious part of the problem with their overtly negative stance.

They should just report the news, not always good and not always bad - just report facts and news.

They are going TMZ route to drive up hits

I'd like to drive my fist and hit their management staff.

People only write letters to complain about something.

Nobody every writes a letter to say that they had a wonderful time, the team played perfectly, and they can't wait until the next home game.

Why don't you start a new trend ... flood the Post-Standard with positive letters every week.

If the PS gets 10 positive letters for every negative one, they'll have to publish a few of them. ;)

These are letters to the editor, correct? Are you suggesting that the paper should basically censor letters that are negative to Syracuse sports? That would be ridiculous. Letter's to the editor are an avenue for people to air their complaints. Do you really think anyone pays attention to them?

Don't be so sure. I've been told by someone who would know that the writers are often told by the editorial staff to go with negative/controversial angles over positive/"fluff" angles precisely because they know it'll draw more clicks.

I'm really glad you posted this, when I read that letter I just shook my head that Syracuse.com would even give it any credence. The man who wrote this letter obviously has very limited football knowledge, he simply doesn't understand play calling.

Every play has a counter play, that "one yard run" can be a 50 yard play action pass in the 3rd quarter. Football is a chess match, it's about the right calls and knowing your strength, anyone who doesn't know this doesn't have a opinion worthy of the front page on the local news website.

I do find it a little intriguing that all week long all they kept hammering home was how bad attendance is, and then just before the game, post a couple of letters talking about how horrible things are at the Dome.

Yep. "Plane lands safe" never attracts an audience.

I had seen that letter this morning, glancing over the football page of .com. I figured it was rosconey taking a small measure of revenge.

It's convenient that there's no video of the kiss cam. Does anyone who was there remember seeing that?

I was there but didn't see the first few kisses on the kiss cam. What I did see was benign.

When would people be sending letters to the editor about Syracuse football? During the summer?

Hence the week long focus on attendance and not the 2-0 start.

And then they complain about "access"... If the were a touch more balanced, they'd probably get more inside looks.
