Was looking at this some weeks ago, and wanted to share. There is really no point to this post other than providing a look at the different eras. I do have a couple things to add based on these findings.
Syracuse Orange Football Record By Year | College Football at Sports-Reference.com (sports-reference.com)

Reaves Baysinger - 1947-1948 ( 4-14 ) .222

Biggie Munn - 1946 ( 4-5 ) .444

Ossie Solem - 1937-1945 ( 30-27-6 ) .524 ( no season in '43 )
8 seasons, 3 losing. Ranked 4 different seasons.

Vic Hanson - 1930-1936 ( 33-21-5 ) .602
7 seasons, 1 losing.

Lew Andreas - 1927-1929 ( 15-10-3 ) .589
3 seasons, 0 losing.

Pete Reynolds - 1925-1926 ( 15-3-2 ) .800
2 seasons, 0 losing.

Chick Meehan - 1920-1924 ( 35-8-4 ) .787
5 seasons, 0 losing.

A hodge podge of names you don't know - 1899-1919 ( 113-59-13 ) .619
19 seasons, 2 losing.

119 total seasons, 32 losing seasons. Now to put things in perspective, 12 of those losing seasons came since P left us. Nearly 38% of all losing seasons have been in the last 15 years. There was only 18 losing seasons in the first 99 years of Syracuse football.

Is there any chance that Pete Reynolds or Chick Meehan are preserved in a tank in some science lab on campus?

That first 20 years were a good time to be a fan.

I think the biggest thing this proves, is that it all ebbs and flows. Even Alabama had crappy eras. I think it also proves that the expectations of some fans are unrealistic. This is a perfect showcase of how we can and should be a program that religiously wins between 6-9, occasionally gets to 10 or 11, and once in a while reaches the promised land with a magical 1959 or 1987 type season.

I am only old enough to have started at Archbold with Maloney. I really have "liked" Babers and Shafer, and even Marrone, and will always try to support the coach. That said, I was unhappy about the P situation when it happened, and when I look at things like this, It almost angers me. You can tell me all the reasons it needed to happen, but what you cant tell me is how things would have played out if he was kept. What could he have done with improved facilities, and a different AD. I just makes me think. One thing I don't think can be denied, is it's probably time to honor P in some way. He is the all time winning BE coach, and among the best winning percentages in program history.

One of the things you left off or may not have dug too deep on with that link is SRS and SoS.

The winning % doesn’t mean a ton if you’re schedule is abnormally tough. And winning % is what gets you to bowl games. They are imperfect metrics when comparing HC against each other.

I think it’s more interesting and informative to mix in true context. Part of the reason for our run of lessor years with Shafer and Babers is our ACC schedule year over year is tougher than zombie Big East by a good margin.

There's also significant changes in how the game is played and the demographics of who plays the game.

The playing field was much more level when no one weighed more than 200 pounds and everyone recruited locally.

I thought Makoney’s ‘79 squad was ranked end of season like #25.
