Cool. That is so weird to read. Syracuse fighting for an NCAA bid with Rutgers, Providence and Boston College.

I wonder why they announced the bids with the regular season still not completed? Strange.

NIT was the big dog in those days right?

No. By then, NIT was second fiddle, but prestigious still. The major conferences only got one team into the tournament, so the 2nd best ACC and Big Ten team would play NIT. Also, it all happened at MSG. Every round, every game.
