Syracuse: Promising rebuilding job?

Look Bees GROb was a complete horrific mess of a football coach. A complete failure as toucan get for a coach of any sport any where. He was very destructive to Syracuse University football. He was a cancer to the program completely destroying it and it's reputation. Because he recruited a few good players doesn't discount the devestation that his incompetence caused. Stop defending this man

Thank you for that insightful and rational input. I'll take it under advisement.

It is mind blowing to me how people cannot understand what Bees is actually saying about GRob.

Mind. Blowing.

What I said is true. His tenure at SU was horrendous and he completely destroyed the football program. I think any rational person could see that. He then went to Michigan and made the defense look just as awful as SU's. Ask any Michigan fan about why they think of him.
You may like the man and maybe he is a nice guy but he's one of the worst coaches in college football history. You say you aren't loyal to him but any time some one is critical of him you jump in to the thread and defend him. Admit it he dsestroyed Syracuse football

Please please please do not bring the good name of Toucan Sam into this argument. He doesn't even like football.

I think I understand what Bees is trying to say, although he and I disagree as to the extent of the "destruction" Robinson brought to the program. I agree with Bees that he wasn't as atrocious a recruiter as everyone makes him out to be. But I disagree that Robinson didn't leave a huge hole that SU couldn't climb out of.

The prestige and tradition factor SU used to live off of with recruits in the 80s and 90s was destroyed as all kids pay attention to is the here and now. Honestly, I think Marrone has done the best job recruiting as any coach could have when in this situation. The door to getting really talented and highly sought after kids is now gone thanks to Robinson and that is not going to change for at least another five years (depending on the team's record). This is the hole that is killing the program right now, kids are allowing Marrone to talk to them, but not seriously considering SU. Ishaq and Jarron Jones are two perfect examples; they both grew up in a Syracuse culture with Williams' parents being alums and Jones' family being SU fans. They had to think about their future and they realized that they'd have a better shot at the pros at a more successful program. Wins brings recruits, and big name wins not beating two 1AA teams to get to a crap bowl game. It's time to start winning and taking risks again, not letting the other team take control of the fate of the game as Marrone (so far), Robinson, and Pasqualoni all like(d) to do.

Something that i find interesting is the Grob who was the worst coach in the history of SU came in with his resume touting him to be this great DC. Doug comes in with his resume touting him to be this great OC. Grobs D's were some of the worst ever fielded and to Date Dougs O has been his weakness. What this tells me is that both of these guys may have been way over rated in their respective strengths.

The best ever post on GRob which was ever made on our board (two boards ago)was one before we hired him. Kohli was completly prophetic. Too bad we can't use the Way Back web site to retrieve it.:(

What I don't get are the people who think that GRob was an all time bad HC and at the SAME TIME they think there was nothing there when Marrone took over. You CANNOT have it both ways. Either GRob cost SU 1-2 games with his AWFUL HCing, or we had no talent and it wasn't GRob's coaching but his lack of recruiting. Personally I think GRob's coaching cost SU 2 games a year. So a mediocre HC would have gone 18-29 those 4 years. That still sucks but it isn't as big a hole as some like to claim.

Except you failed to list the 10 win 2001 season in that list...

I didn't fail to list anything. At least not intentionally. I showed 9 wins for 2001 because that is what the SU athletic site shows here for 2001 (scroll down, they forgot the bowl game).

But 9 wins 10 wins wasn't the point of my post anyways, so it makes no difference. But thanks for catching SU's mistake.
