It’s time turn the page on the epic season of Kyle McCord. Spring Ball 2025 is going to have a legit QB Competition. You can look at it from multiple ways to make a case as to who’s the favorite. Is it Jakhari a true 4 star recruit who has the ability to play along side 6 for a whole season while learning the offense and establishing a relationship with the staff? Is it Collins the transfer from LSU who many seem to think was brought in to fill the role? Can a true freshman in Luke Carney come in and earn the job? There’s a case to be made for all three - the off season conditioning program and weeks of spring ball leading up to the spring game will be interesting to say the least! But we have to ask ourselves, is Fran done portal shopping? There are still a couple names out there who may surprise some but also may be worth taking a look at!

Carney will redshirt, he said himself. Tough to be sold on either of Collins or Jakhari as neither has played yet but probably going to be a long year regardless and hopefully between the two of them we can find a legit P4 starter.

6 wins would be a miracle

I think Mccord showed Williams what and how he needs to prepare for games and where he should be looking to throw the ball. it truly helps having a great mentor.

My memory of Carney’s statement was that it would nice to redshirt behind Kyle and learn under him. He said if Kyle did not return he would compete for the starting job.
All three qbs have athletic ability. To me the starter will be the one that can best read defenses and gets the ball out quickly in game situations.
We have all seen plenty of qbs that look great in shorts throwing the ball but fold in games. The one that can handle game pressure will be the qb.
I would also not start projecting win totals at this point. Even with the schedule no one knows how this team will do until they take the field. The season is a long way off.

With McCord gone, I think it’s unlikely Carney redshirts now. He will be in the mix. If he redshirts it’s because Rickie has really impressed and won the job, and Jakari solidified the backup spot. I know he wasn’t highly rated but the coaches love Carney.

One advantage that our new QB is going to have is an excellent OC. Nixon isn't tied to a particular O. He is on record as saying that he tailors his Offense to the talent. I have no idea which QB is going to win the job, but it will come down to Jakhari or Collins and i wouldn't be surprised if one of them transfers out if they don't win the job. I believe that WR is going to be one of if not our best Unit as a team which is obviously going to help. Hopefully Willis steps up and becomes a great back not only running the ball but providing pass protection and the ability to catch out of the backfield.
It is going to be next to impossible to replace Kyle as well as OG and LA. That combined with an extremely difficult schedule will most likely mean a step back in the win column. What i want to see if a a competitive team that continues to build depth. 7 wins would be a great season.

Spent some time with Coach Emmanuel Marc and their GM Nate McNeal last night. They said JW is the real deal. They wanted McCord back but he got some feedback from some nfl teams and they said his stock has risen dramatically and also teams are realizing these other qbs aren’t as good (Aller, Leonard, Beck) and McCord will get some serious shots at the NFL based on what he’s been hearing. Yesterday and day before they heard back from a lot of teams hence why he pulled the trigger yesterday on declaring.
They know the schedule is rough but they said that Nixon is super pumped to have dual threat QB. But also to look out for Carney. But sure sounds like JW is the leader and Kyle really looked after him and had a great relationship with him. More importantly this whole staff is just great human beings. Proud to rep the community and team

Love to hear that and was kind of feeling the decision was made based on what was happening with his competition during the bowl and playoff season. Am I only the only one that when they saw JW is the real deal was thinking of John Wildhack? Lol

My wonder with all this is, where does the NIL money earmarked for Kyle go? Obviously I think if he returned the number would have been more but with him now gone (and even if that number is 1-2M) where can that go?

The spring portal could be interesting, but not expecting fireworks like last offseason

I’m excited for Collins vs Williams, but whoever wins the job, it’ll be interesting once adversity hits. No one’s more popular than the backup QB when QB1 struggles. We never had to worry in 2024 about that.

My understanding is it was specifically for Kyle. I may be wrong but if that’s the case, it’s Frans/the staffs job to sell the donors on the rest of the team/plan to pull in funds

With Kyle officially gone, does Fran look at an experienced portal QB in the spring, or are we rocking with what we have?

This is going to be a fun competition. I’m not sure there is many experienced QBs that would even want to join this competition because very few current starters in College Football would be sure they can win it. Not an insider just looking at the scouting reports.

There's a difference between NIL and revenue sharing money now too. A business or collective gets a benefit out of an NIL deal with Kyle. There's sponsorship elements, appearances, marketing, etc. Revenue sharing is where most of the money will come from going forward so I think it was more money earmarked for Kyle because he brings a lot more in terms of NIL benefits.

Yeah thats what I figured. Id say our 5 best revenue sharing prospects all left this season. McCord, Allen, Gadsden, Wax and Barron.

Pena will certainly draw deals. Will probably see Willis, Duce, Grant and a couple others too hopefully. Need some stars and big personalities to make some hype over the next 7 months.

Spoke with my WR friend yesterday. Actually they called me with the news. They are not concerned. They trust Fran and they said he will put the best product forward for the Tenn. game. He is not sitting there worried and neither are the other players. Their goal is to improve on this season. They also know if for some reason they can not do that, then 2 years they will be a playoff team. They really are all in.

No info but my guess is we rock with the kids in an all out competition through spring game. Fran and staff put these guys through as many stress tests as possible and if they don’t have confidence after our spring game they go into portal to find a starter.

Not getting your leader / QB until spring is really not a great recipe for success so I only see that as a break glass in emergency scenario
