Lemoyne is filling out its non conference schedule for their first season of Division I basketball. So far they have Georgetown, a west coast trip, Binghamton and Army. Does anyone know why Syracuse-Lemoyne did not happen?

There's no way we're playing them early until we have time to iron out the wrinkles in our M2M defense. We all saw what happened last time.

No idea but my guess is that we filled our schedule already.
Agree. Their move to D 1 was only approved a couple months ago and I'm sure most of our games were either already set or the discussions were far enough along that we didn't want to break them off. Wouldn't be surprised to see them on future schedules though.

Yeah, we ended up ranked #1 for the first time in many years!

if your afraid to play lemoyne early then just give up your hopes for a conference title and play for 8th place acc again. honestly woosies.

Also have to factor in how it affects the metrics. I’m sure it will become an annual game once they gain their footing. Little surprised they were able to schedule such big programs. I also don’t know much about the current Lemoyne program but I can’t imagine they have much success the next 3 years as they transition to D1.

Lemoyne has 2 big money games now out of 9 scheduled. Most of their NEC peers have 3-4 big opponents. Georgetown and Villanova are catholic schools like Lemoyne. Georgetown and Lemoyne are both “Jesuit” which is a small group. Lemoyne has struggled getting home games with only D 3 Canton and Houghton on the slate so far.

Not uncommon for new D-1 schools to struggle getting home games. They will have to work some deals. And if they get good, the struggle will still be there. Schools like Siena and Iona have a hard time getting bigger programs to come to town, since both traditionally play tough at home. Bigger schools have nothing to gain to go on the road vs a mid or lower major.

Would love to see LeMoyne at Cuse, but even better would love to see a doubleheader with LeMoyne playing someone in the opener and then Cuse in the nitecap. Even get schools like Colgate, Cornell, Binghamton involved.

Do it on a Saturday and the day before or after, dothe same thing with the Women's programs.

Yes the small DI schools usually schedule a home and home with each other, best they can hope for at home and add some D 2 D 3 games to fill it out. Lemoyne AD said it was difficult getting the home games right now. I recall Colgate recently played SUNY Poly (small D 3 in Utica) a few days before playing Syracuse.

UB played St John Fisher a few years back. A big man from Fisher was all over social media after that game.

Starting out, these new D1 programs first need the larger box office $ to continue to compete. Playing away games against big D1 programs pays them the money to build and help sustain their new, smaller program. They need to form relationships with these bigger programs to build their recognition, develop friends and professional connections with larger programs. Players at these small D1 programs doing this will recruit better players who dream competing against well known established programs who all passed them over. It’s a win-win for them - regardless of the individual game’s immediate outcome. It’s a long process they will be going through and they are starting out initially well for their long term.
