Thanks for this note. I have thought about this a bit. Even natural rivals that share a state can cool down when one team is much better than the other (GA-GaTech).
I believe that to develop a red hot rivalry you have to take something away from your rival and vice versa (like in my alternate-reality version of this season when we took Clemson's playoff bid away).
Neither Pitt or SU has had that much to lose recently. So if you are not a natural rival like Stanford v Cal, the game won't have too much heat.

BC should have one nation championship but it likely would have come at the cost of their team. Blowing it vs Holy Cross cancelled the team party at this place that night.
