Thanks for this note. I have thought about this a bit. Even natural rivals that share a state can cool down when one team is much better than the other (GA-GaTech).
I believe that to develop a red hot rivalry you have to take something away from your rival and vice versa (like in my alternate-reality version of this season when we took Clemson's playoff bid away).
Neither Pitt or SU has had that much to lose recently. So if you are not a natural rival like Stanford v Cal, the game won't have too much heat.
