New York State produces some nice talent, yet, the top talent isn't coming to Syracuse. We just watched Notre Dame destroy our team, one out of the top three scorers in that game, Citron, is from New York State and one is from New Jersey(Hildalgo). The 6-5 freshman post player, was from Long Island. An ESPN top 10 , 6-4 post player in the 2026 class is playing in Queens, yet Syracuse wasn't even in her TOP 16 choices!! A top 40 player, that we have been recruiting since she was in the 8th grade, from upstate NY...gets a late offer from an SEC school and cancels her official visit to the Cuse! This should sound a huge alarm to all who care about Syracuse Women's Hoops. It isn't the lack of of recruiting ability of our staff, tired of hearing that. Coach Jack has a very compelling story that I think resonates with young women. Syracuse is a great school. The difference I think now, is cash money and how much are you able to pay. Look at the University of Virginia, an Alum, who is a successful businessman and husband of Serena Williams, just pledged a multi year, multi million dollar gift to the Virginia Women's basketball program, the largest in the history of their program. The ACC now has SMU and Stanford, which just signed a top 5 recruiting class, in the mix. Syracuse needs a significant financial commitment to it's team if we want to remain competitive. Multi million dollars donors make that task much easier, but in the absence of that, we can start small, with each fan committing to give something every month. It looks like we have to play "small ball" here in the 315 until we can convince larger donors to contribute. The bottom line is the type of team that we want to see on the floor, will depend on how much we are willing to give! This is going to be the new reality in all of college sports.
