Syracusefan.com group for the official Fantasy Premier League game

League Winner Prize/Buy-in
As we did last season, in order to buy the league winner an official kit/other apparel from their favorite club/international team, expect a buy in of $10-$15 buy-in again this season, depending on how many join. The more that join, the more the cost lowers. Please be aware of that small financial commitment at the end of the 25-26 FPL Syracusefan.com mini-league season if you're participating.
Hey all, as the league winner this season & the recipient of the buy-in money from the participants, I ended up purchasing a Nike Liverpool jacket!

Been a Liverpool supporter for about 15 years or so now, so it was extra fun to grab some swag to represent the Premier League winners. It took me 2 months of very intentional internet searching to track down this jacket in my size. Part of the challenge was that it was a 2021-22 release, just not many of them out there. Virgil Van Dijk wore it for the LFC championship parade - that’s where I first noticed it! YNWA

Getting my brother (not a board member) to join as well. He, like me, forgot to update the team at some point a few seasons ago but said he's down to donate the $10-12 assuming he doesn't win. Big Liverpool fan whereas I have no allegiance personally. I had a fling with Stoke City back when they were in the Premier League because they were my FIFA team but otherwise just kinda follow the league as a whole. Have always tried to leave my allegiance open just because wife and I have often flirted with the idea of moving to London but realistically that probably won't happen lol.

P.S.: Blink-1 Eto'o is killing me

Update: we’re out to 14 (!) teams in the FPL Syracusefan mini-league, by far the most team involvement we’ve had. I love it, gonna be a fun season!

Hey, how many of you guys are in the Syracuse vicinity?

We should meet up some time for a Saturday or Sunday morning double header.

Wolf's, across from City Hall, used to open on the weekends for Premier League games, and who doesn't like a little early morning weekend buzz? LOL
But they closed back during COVID.

I don't really have any friends who are soccer fans, and it's a drag. I've tried to get several of them interested, and it just doesn't take. I compared soccer to lacrosse, basketball (fast breaks, zone defenses) and even rugby (fluid flow to the game, no real line of scrimmage, physical game, etc.). One guy I know loves watching GOLF, FFS, and he has the nerve to say he finds soccer boring! LOL

One buddy of mine watched the 2022 World Cup Final with me, and had a great time watching Argentina v. France (such a game!). But he had a stroke a few months later, and doesn't really get out much anymore.

I don't know if anyone knows of any bars in the Syracuse area that's open on the weekends for Premier League Mornings, but I'd love to be able to hang out and shoot the bull with other fans who actually follow the sport.

So, if any of you has a place you can recommend, share it here. Let's get together sometime this fall to watch a couple games.

I appreciate the offer, unfortunately I haven’t lived in Syracuse for the past 18 years, Ohio for me. But, my dad still lives there & if it ever works out that I’m there on a weekend during some gameweek I’d love to crash something like this if it was happening

I live in DC so I'm unfortunately out, but a cursory google/reddit search showed Wolff's is very much still open and will be showing all the Premier League games this weekend.

CT/MA here.
I can always find a spot for games like 11a on, but never earlier.

Wolff's is sick if they open early for everything.

Hey all, the league begins this Friday, with Liverpool at home to Bournemouth.
Deadline is technically set to 1:30 pm Eastern to have your roster locked in, but make sure to not leave til last minute.

We would still love to have more folks join.

A bunch of us would be happy to answer any questions you have about scoring after you read through the rules.

final bump of this post. Season starts tomorrow. Have your team saved by noon Eastern to be safe.

Up to 14 teams. Impressive. I can expect a fourth or fifth place finish out of my squad no matter how many teams compete. 6 teams, 4th place. 14 teams, 4th place. Book it. I never pick up the hot hand until it’s too late.

I ceremoniously picked up my lone Wolves player this year. We will be fighting against relegation all year.

I do think the new PL defensive scoring settings will require a week or two to apply to teams strategies to pick the appropriate players.

Actually, with PeteCalvin's addition, we're at 15 teams! Love it.

Getting my butt kicked so far, but many of my guys play tomorrow, so here's hoping for improvement in the standings before the weekend is over.

Gameweek 2 kicks off and rosters lock tomorrow.
Have your changes saved by 1:30p Eastern AT THE LATEST for the West Ham v. Chelsea KO at 3 pm.

Good news! I stopped by Wolff's yesterday afternoon.
They are indeed open for Premier League mornings!
They open 30 minutes before the first game.
I hope to meet some of you there sometime this season, when we have a big game weekend.

What a disaster to start… I knee-jerked reacted with a wildcard play, basically scrapped my whole roster. 15 minutes into the West Ham vs Chelsea game: Dropped Diouf from West Ham - assist. Dropped Pedro from Chelsea - goal. Added Cucurella from Chelsea - goal conceded. Wild🤣

Edit: Cucurella did assist on the Pedro goal, so not all is lost

Edit: Joao Pedro adds an assist… I know better than to make wholesale changes after 1 week, sheesh🤦‍♂️

Yeah, I had a poor first week, but didn't change anything, despite 2 of my guys being unavailable. Now, I lose Palmer as my captain this week. Ugh.

But I try to avoid knee jerk reactions, and give a lineup until the first international break to see how people are doing. I think we will know more after the 1st and 2nd international breaks. Those tend to be good times to make lineup changes.

OK, International Break #2 is here. How are you doing in Fantasy Football?

Not to brag, but the 2024 winner (me) is back in first place and holding steady.
It's been pretty nip and tuck with Arteta Fensive, and Grateful Fred right in there.

Ominously, last year's winner, JDubb / Victory Train is rapidly moving up in the ranks after a slow start.

Salah has been awful. I swapped him for Haaland, I think in Week 2, after having played it mostly the opposite last year.

Everyone in Chelsea's offense is worse without Cole Palmer in the lineup to stitch them together. Maybe Estevao can build up into being that guy with some magic in his boots, like Willian was alongside Eden Hazard several years ago.

There are so many good coaches in the Premier League. How did Ange Postecoglu get rehired ????

Yes, moving from last to a healthy point lead in first is impressive IthacaMatt, well done!… I’ll continue to plan on lurking & reminding you it’s a long season, especially with all the chips doubled for this go around😉.

What a roller coaster for us Liverpool fans, riding high with 3 or 4 80+ min. game winning late goals… to 2 straight brutal extra time losses to Crystal Palace & Chelsea (3rd loss including Champions League). A massive, massive financial summer transfer window, only to see Wirtz, Kerkez, Isak, etc. struggle. Not to mention MacAllister looks like he’s fallen off a cliff performance wise, Salah’s not far off from that drop too, insane. Offense is flat, disconnected & boring, defense is cracked & porous. Really wish the Guehi deal had gone through like expected, only to have Glasner blow it all up… now watch him bail on Palace as soon as the Man United job comes open.

It’s gonna be a fun season either way, I don’t see any truly dominate teams this season, no matter who it is I see it being an exciting race.

P.S. How fun is it to have 19 teams in the Syracusefan mini-league?! Really would love one more to give us that even 20 (we can start are own relegation system🤣)

We are all doing exceptionally well at the top of our group. I'm like 32,000 ranked out of more than 11 million players worldwide - that's like top 3/10ths of a percentage point of all players so far.

And, yes, it is a long season.

Not getting Guehi and not getting at least 1 more fullback hurt your guys' recruitment. My concern as a Liverpool fan would be that Salah seems unhappy. You've got to get him smiling again for the offense to click.

Yeah, I love how many people are in the group this year. Makes it a lot more fun.

Was in Ireland for the past couple weeks and it threw off my timing setting my lineup and such but I'm back and made a few swaps this week. Let's see how it goes! Sucks that Grealish can't play this week since it's against Man City lol.

I hope you hang onto that brother. At one point last year I was ranked inside the top 9000 players. This year I'm not anywhere close...
