Syverud retiring in June 2026 / next University of Michigan President

To be fair to the non-scratch golfers out there, the back side of the greens at Lyndon that are up against Route 5 have about 10 yards before you're on asphalt. All it takes is mis-judging by one club and your ball is going to end up across the street. I'd imagine if Onondaga had any holes with a similar layout, there'd be golf balls ending up on Lyndon property as well.

Lyndon balls on OCC property?

So that location supports what was reported on this board weeks ago. Hainey.
Now need update on report that he supports Lyke as AD. Hopefully that's not true.

I first learned to downhill ski at Drumlins. I was back there a couple of years ago and the ski hill now has 30-40 foot trees on it.
My aunt, uncle belonged to Drumlins, they lived right down the street from the main entrance. Loved when a kid, they would take us there , it had everything. Ice skating, skiing, bowling, swimming pool with 3 diving boards and golf courses. You could eat there, get snacks, hot chocolate - it was like a mini amusement park. By the time I was in high school they no longer belonged because my cousins didn’t go there enough anymore. Living in the city, I thought they lived a magical life with Drumlins right down the street with everything to keep a kid busy.

I went to elementary school right up the street at Tecumseh Elementary.

First time I ever went golfing was with my grandparents. They took my brother and me to Pope’s Grove (par 3) out near the Fairgrounds. They always walked the course with pull carts for exercise. I don’t remember anything about how well I hit the ball, just that I had fun with my grandparents.

Ah Popes Grove, I believe the clubhouse was a trailer and they have my favorite course rule I have ever seen. Shirt required within 100 yards of clubhouse. After hole 1, time to work on the tan and swing...

I work at OGCC. We occasionally find balls behind 5 tee box. So, they are still hitting balls over the road! Lol
I used to caddie there. My father's best friend was Carl G, who I believe won the club championship circa 1962.

Was fortunate to play there again a few years ago when I payed Syracuse a visit.

Edit: the kid who I used to babysit and ended up the President of NK, knew almost everyone, and he got us on OG. It was a Monday and I got there early. There were a few greens keeper guys around, but only one club guy, no one else. I figured that I was a country club guy so I made use of the men's locker room and would behave myself appropriately. So I'm sitting on a bench waiting for my guy and host to show up, and the OG guy comes up to me and asks why I'm there, which I tell him, and he says. "please tuck in you shirt"!

I then realized that I was a NK country club guy, not a OG country club guy.

I agree. Between Drumlins and Suburban Park, a kid didn't need anything more.

That course had a hole about 60 yards with a tree right in front of the green.

It remains the worst designed hole I have ever played, and I have played a lot of courses.

If we had to lose a course, that was a good one to lose.
