Syverud retiring in June 2026

Let the next Chancellor PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE understand FOOTBALL and BASKETBALL will HELP the University Financially in the future.. PLEASE BE SPORT MINDED along the Academically Minded individual and not a dork who just wants real estate!!!
Not exactly sure how much more you would want him to do.

The school is absolutely flush with revenue and cash. Campus is bigger than ever and expanding at a time when many colleges are in trouble.
Is this accurate? The departments I know are in major spending freezes with hiring, moves, etc... Seems like this fall hit them hard.

Someone from a bigger brand SEC or Big Ten school that is AAU accredited would be a step in the right direction.

Also, would like to see someone with a research heavy background either in tech or medical. Would be great to launch a medical school or work with SUNY upstate to collaborate on a medical program, or to have someone tech focused to drive growth in that area, with Micron coming to town.

That was an early goal of Syverud. He tried to do the medical school. Too much push back from Upstate. He was not able to generate the interest in the community or the trustees.

I really wish the state and SU would collaborate to make Upstate and for that matter ESF statutory colleges of Syracuse University- SUNY tuition and resources- think much needed research funding to help the case for AAU- with a Syracuse degree. Would potentially save SUNY money while enhancing the SU brand and reputation. Would increase enrollment also.

All the info is public:

Spending cuts don't contradict the financial situation and unfortunately make sense in this climate. It's one thing to make money, it's a separate thing not to lose it.
While I don't believe that SU is in any danger of going under or anything, everything I hear from faculty at the school is that things are getting much worse, not better.

As a fan of the sports teams with no academic connection to Syracuse other than the sweet, sweet 15 SUPA credits I earned in highschool and have on my transcript, I never got over the fact that this dude was a nerd from Georgetown.
As far as I’m concerned, my SUPA credits make me an SU Alum. lol

Hear you on the Georgetown connection. You think that’s tough, two of my kids were born at Georgetown University hospital. Hating Georgetown is in my blood, yet I’m grateful for their great medical facilities. So now I deal with mixed thoughts re: Georgetown on a frequent basis!

As a Senior Whiz-Bang Advocate, I give a hearty boolah-boolah to your pronouncement. I shall dispatch your suggestion to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?

The new grand poobah will be met with huzzahs and sis boom bah!

I’m here for a SUPA class taking nerd calling someone else a nerd.

Good stuff!

I believe, that should've been pursued much more heavily with state backing. Also re opening school of nursing. There honestly was massive blunders started with K Shaw>>>NC In hindsight certainly did not have forward vision, KS, I feel has tried so hard with this University in relation to true research endeavors. I can say so much more

And my oldest has said he wants to go there.
