Really? What is up with SU Marketing? Potentially the biggest game of this century so far with a NC Contender and the first game in our new conference and simply nothing...no billboards, no radio, no TV and no digital media promotion of any kind here locally.

Feels like another game with just 35k showing up in the Dome again to me. I don't care how many tickets are sold, Im talking butts in seats!

i dont understand why SU is not pushing to try and get stories in the paper/tv beyond what happens in the sports sections. did they give up on the radio/tv ad campaigns completely?..

that in itself should be a story for the paper.

Can they really promote it if they have no idea when the game will kick-off? Think about it. People will call the ticket office and ask what time is the game. And the rep has to say "I have no idea." How is that going to go down?

Bingo. Just about to ask the same question!

Monday morning after time is announced should be a full page ad in Syracuse newspaper/internet calling for orange out (or blue out , or white out)

I think you'll see the push starting immediately after the TV time is announced. If not heads should roll.

they shouldnt be waiting for a time to start trying to build a buzz.. there is a segment that cares what time the game is and one that doesnt as clearly its already sold more than the first 2 home games. if you wait until monday for a paper ad when the paper is only a few days a week thats bad..

they should have been hyping the ACC angle since August. I never heard a single ad this year on the radio drive in to work. they need to get more creative and be less concerned about money and more about getting people in the seats.

The segment that doesn't care about the time probably bought their ticket. The one that cares didn't. We would look pretty dumb advertising to the next tier of fan without telling them the gametime.

Billboards and radio ads aren't the answer to every turnout problem.

Seriously, you can't advertise that the game will be played on Saturday Oct 5 - you need a specific time? that's a load of crap.

so many avg fans dont follow the schedule that closely you are wasting time to think you can grab them all waiting until the last minute. and its not just for the next game you can be advertising for several games at once.

cornell gets way less people at a game and is in a much smaller market with a tiny fan base and still has been marketing for weeks.

No there not but they sure as hell dont hurt

Recent research has shown the empirical evidence for globalization of corporate innovation is very limited. And as a corollary, the market for selling tickets to football games is shrinking.

As a sports leader, it is important for Syracuse to provide systematic research grants for our marketing department. I believe there will always be a need for us to have a well-articulated innovation policy with emphasis on getting people in the seats for every game. Thank you.

Id like to note than i am getting 2 emails every day from suthletics shop trying to sell me gameday gear...you would think they might send these emails out about the FREAKING GAME so that you could wear gameday gear to it. Yes, i realize that these emails are going to season ticket holders for the most part..but still.

In politics you have to advertise the times polls open and close for a Get Out the Vote program and there's a 14 hour window in NYS to vote. And this is basically a turnout program so yeah.

It's a grass roots effort.

Cornell still has football?

Exactly. get creative. Run a commercial where you outline how awesome all 3 time slots could be. They'd have to make something up for noon, but it would be fun. I guess for noon, they could show Armory square dining that night because you got out of the game early. For 3:30 they could show awesome footage of beautiful tailgating. Make the commercial fun. Would be a great and create buzz about the game.

Of course you would have to start by explaining what tailgating is

It IS difficult to tailgate for basketball.

Hard to have a full page ad on Monday when there isn't a local paper.

just some numbers to think about. some of the ACC schools

UNC seats 63000 avg 50000 last year = 80%
GT seats 55000 avg 44000 = 80% = 80%

Miami Fl seats 80000 avg 47000 = 58%
Virginia seats 61500 avg 46600 = 75%
wake seats 31500 and avg 28900 = 91%
maryland 51800 avg 36000 = 70%

SU seats 49200 avg 38000 = 77%

our numbers are not that out of wack with much of the ACC. wake doesnt sell out a way smaller place.

I'm afraid the casual fans you are trying to reach with this are not going to buy into it being Potentially the biggest game of this century so far. They will see 2 wins over weak opponents and SU as a possible 3 TD underdog (in their minds) and say "show me". Most of them probably didn't even see the Wagner game because they weren't going to pony up $9 and they just haven't seen the exciting level of play on the field that we have.
Not saying it shouldn't be marketed, just not sure the target fans will be swayed by it,
