T - 10 days and counting - still no local marketing!

I did see a digital billboard in North Syracuse for SU Football on 81 Southbound...was speeding so I didn't read the whole thing, not enough time. It was one of those that switches for like 4 different ads every so often.

At this point, I'd be happy if the marketing efforts were turned over to faculty and students in the Sports Management program.

I'm afraid the casual fans you are trying to reach with this are not going to buy into it being Potentially the biggest game of this century so far. They will see 2 wins over weak opponents and SU as a possible 3 TD underdog (in their minds) and say "show me". Most of them probably didn't even see the Wagner game because they weren't going to pony up $9 and they just haven't seen the exciting level of play on the field that we have.
Not saying it shouldn't be marketed, just not sure the target fans will be swayed by it,

I agree - I am 100% certain the casual fan isn't going to be swayed by a TV ad or a billboard. It's hopelessly naive to think otherwise. It's not like SU hasn't spent money and marketed the team to attract casual fans in the past - THE PROBLEM IS IT HASN'T ACCOMPLISHED A **KING thing!!! We can debate if they spent money on the right things, or enough on marketing, or spent time trying to create "game day atmosphere"...but we can't say they haven't tried at all - and it resulted in zilch. Zippo. Nada (except for less money to spend on other things, didn't increase revenues).

Anyone that thinks Syracuse is doing the wrong thing by not spending money on marketing is simply crazy. You are expecting the school to flush money down the toilet in an ultimately futile effort to attract an indifferent fan base to attend a game that said fans won't attend unless they are being held hostage inside the Carrier Dome while the game occurs. Simply an idiotic position to take.

Spend the advertising cash on shiny things to attract recruits and coaching salaries. Win games with those recruits and coaches and you will have crowds follow at a 80-90% capacity. Create a buzz that gets people moving called winning games.
