T H E FRAN P L A N

Wild to think Chesney was the coach until JW took Fran’s call. Yes I think Chesney is a good coach but everything Fran does, I wouldn’t want anyone else at the helm. From how they are in the community to the product on the field, you seriously cannot ask for me. Fran bet on himself and proved to everyone he can do some things we haven’t seen in a while
What Fran exemplifies, D.A.R.T., speaks to a certain kind of player. Those players play for more than themselves. They play with a purpose, they put the S above themselves. That's why we've not offered certain players that seem like a NEED. Fran will get the right players for this culture and it is about building the program, not just selling out for a highly rated recruit.

The community piece blows my MIND. HOW were they not doing that before? What was the thought process for excluding prior Syracuse football players? Is there an obvious reason I’m missing?

Dino claimed he didn't want any distractions his first year, but then never made any effort after that either. At least that was how I remember it.

It's working.

I clicked this thread hoping it was about The Fran Plan - a new boxed meal plan I could subscribe to and get boxed meals delivered that Fran had worked with superchef Bobby Flay to curate menu selections that were:

(D)elicious
(A)affordable
(R)estortative
(T)imely

Imagine my disappointment when opened this the thread and it had none of this...

Basically what MSOrange just said below. The smoke and mirrors effect was crazy with Dino. He didn’t show up to anything he didn’t have to attend. I mean nothing. He obviously kept practice slammed shut. I think he did this because he really didn’t want anyone to see how bad of a coach he actually was. He may have been a nice guy, but he did some very strange coaching things and he was here for him and him only.

Fran implemented mandatory community service (on Tuesdays I believe) and the impact it has made has worked wonders. I got to spend a lot of time with some coaches at Meiers Creek and you would think they have been here for 20 years the way they were so comfortable and talking to everyone

It's about getting the right players who want a culture where everyone works together to win.
Kyle was the leading example, he played the entire bowl game, even with a 3 TD lead.
He played for his teammates to make sure their season ended on a high note.

More importantly, how long before they switch your handle back?

Plus, after the high-water mark of 10 wins in 2018 and finalist for coach of the year, rumor on the street was he REALLY wanted the USC job and was miffed when they decided to retain Helton for 2019 and the job didn't open up. No idea if true, but read it on here, so...

I don't think anyone can argue that we got Baber's best effort in his remaining seasons here tho.

Grandpa just wanted to ride out his final head coaching job for as long as it lasted from 2019-on.

One thing I think Fran is kind of leaning into in recruiting, that I think would be good for the brand to lean into explicitly with the media is an Us vs. Them, Northeast vs. Southeast mindset. Getting these kids who grew up in the Northeast, went to Southern schools (or rural Northeastern schools, cough penitentiary cough) to play football and didn't like the culture there, the way they were treated there, etc, and convincing them to come to Cuse. Then getting the word out that if you wanted to play with your friends you grew up playing with/against, there was now a Northeastern program that would give you a chance to actually compete.

The thing is, I think taking that a step farther would be great for the brand of the program. Get some real rivalries going with some of these ACC schools, flat out say you want to stick it to these "tobacco plantation, er, I mean road, programs."

There are a lot of ways to frame it and phrase it, some might be offensive to the Southern schools and the conference, some might not. But our brand is worth more if some of these opponents' truly hate us, those matchups become more highly rated on TV and more valuable, and that's good for us.

I would leave Clemson out of it or well towards the respectful side of the spectrum because Dabo is cool with us, maybe leave Georgia Tech out of it, go hard on Florida State, Duke, UNC, NC State, and Miami.

Also the better we get, I think there's a dynamic where the less we're rivals with BC and Pitt, the worse for them and the better for us.

Uh, yeah, no sheet.

Your response implies that my statement about McCord and Coach Fran's recruiting ability is known by everyone! Clearly, there are still some questioning the job Coach Fran did this year, which I don't understand. In game decisions, Assistant coach's performance?????... We won 10 games, why is there not just universal celebration!

Wasnt he married. I never heard a word about his wife and dont think that she was ever involved in anything to do with the program or community. Pure speculation on my point but i dont remember her being involved.

Fran did a complete culture shift over night. And it showed on the field in year one.

Next year the schedule levels up. Hopefully our performance levels up to match and we can build on the momentum we are rolling with right now.
Im not sure it was overnight, there were some growing pains early but he definitely got them to "DART" level the last 3 games

Example of that was how happy Kyle was when Meeks got the yardage he needed for a 1000 yards.

Good point. For a first time head coach (and new staff), he/they did a LOT of things very well this year.

Sometimes those things only come up when a coach struggles with it (i.e. Dino and clock management).

Marrone also banned a former player, but that because Nunes was trying to sell MLM / pyramid schemes. Not sure if Marrone welcomed other alumni.

What does that have to do with anything?

He makes changes, as needed and upgrades where needed to stay on track toward his stated goal of a National Championship for Cuse
