taunting

i haven't read all the threads but was su taunting usc when they came out of the tunnel in the beginning of the game? it was in front of me and i thought we were

I think USC got us back by jumping on tackle piles a couple of seconds after the whistle about a dozen times. Seriously, after re-watching the game, there were plenty of unnecessary piling on well after the whistle

I would like it...if it wasn't our defensive backs, who struggle enough to contain wr's as it is, taunting wr's that include Woods, and Lee...that just comes off as stupid, and offers no edge in the game. If i'm a lock to be drafted and being taunted by relative unknowns like keon lynn and rishard anderson (granted I don't KNOW who did it, and it very well could have been safeties)? i'm just going to make sure they're as close to me as possible when i make my catches to ensure that they're in my highlights falling down on espn. Taunting legitimately great wr's when you're one of the weak points of our game is just dumb, d-u-m.

Yeah. there was alot of jumping on the pile. They were also talking a lot of smack. I think it was Rishard Anderson that made that touchdown saving tackle on the reverse in the fourth quarter and you could see they were trash talking. I can't stand Kiffen or USC. Kiffen tries to sound like such a nice caring coach on radio interviews but always redeems himself as a scumbag.

It couldn't have been egregious taunting given that USC ran from the tunnel to midfield - right when the coin toss with Tyree and Morris was taking place. I thought they were going to run right through the group at mid-field.

Unsportsmanlike, embarrassing, and completely unnecessary; especially when you're playing against someone who is clearly better than you are. It only makes you a sore loser.

The two that jump out to me was some fat @ss from USC running up, jumping and doing a 180 in the air to land with his @ss on top of the pile. There was also a pretty clear penalty when a USC player ran up to a scrum a second or two after the whistle blew and threw a forearm/elbow to the side of the SU players head. No surprise as I'm writing these there was also the spearing call when the SU WR was almost to the ground and the USC player launched himself helmet forward into the WR's helmet.

If it happens pregame, how does that make one a sore loser? A poor sport, maybe...but it's college football, for crying out loud. Maybe USC was talking trash during pregame warmups? I won't crucify anyone on our team until I hear their side of it.

I think a certain degree of swagger is acceptable. These guys have to go into every game knowing that they can win. I want players that expect to win every game. Some show it in quiet confidence and others shout it from the rooftops, as long as they believe it and play their asses off, I am cool with a little talking before and during the game, and then win or lose a heartfelt handshake after the game.

After USC ran onto the field those same SU players knelt down and formed a circle in that endzone. They appeared to be praying together. Several USC players were praying in the opposite endzone. The taunting was a bad decision.

Agreed.

It was a lot of the local NYC kids too...Marrone didn't seem to have an issue with it, he wasn't too far away

You would almost think based on the past few years of people thinking Marrone is uptight that he would have a problem with this. Either he isn't as uptight as assumed or he is trying to make an effort to be less hands - off. Or none of the above, lol.

By the sounds of it, the NYC guys are sounding like the Miami guys back when Miami started turning around in the early 80's. I dig it.

You know what? i like it! I want kids who trash talk, get in their faces and are confident. You know why? Because it shows we arent a doormat and wont get pushed around. You need to change the culture to win, it strats with kids thinking they are the best on the field no matter who they are playing.

I liked it too. When it first happened I thought to myself what are these guys thinking. Then after a second I got fired up that they were thinking they could win. Eskridge was the one guy that stood out to me. Agree about sportsmanship but when there has been little winning over the past decade we gotta start changing some things. Marrone did not seem to have a problem with it.

I love it! Seems the only guy on our team playing to lose was our coach.

That's what I thought too watching our offensive strategy. We were definitely playing to lose or just hold on for 4 quarters. We looked scared on offense, didn't throw the ball down the field, the O-line got blown up on every play, we let the play clock run down to almost nothing so USC would have less time to score. I'm sick of this crap.

1. Hypothetically: If it's nassib and the offense putting up ridiculous numbers, and it's the secondary talking trash, and then not backing it up (again hypothetical, i'm not taking a stance on whether or not they did back up any bravado) it could lead to some major issues between the offense and the defense or just a lopsided product that doesn't get better because they point to the almighty wins (obviously this hypothetical is down the road a bit...because there are no wins right now) (see: Red Sox, Boston).
2. So yeh, get up for a game however you have to, I want them to believe they can win every single game they schedule - as there is in sprinting, bravado gives you a competitive edge when inches/tenths of a second make the difference between winning and losing - but I think we can all agree, you don't walk up to Usain Bolt and spit in his face (extreme analogy, i know). There's a difference between being loud to get up for a game, and being an idiot

again, I'm not condemning players for what may have amounted to "you don't scare us"...i just think it's a bit naive to think pre-game trash-talk doesn't matter and can only be a good thing...USC players brought this up after the game because they thought it was funny and/or insulting, I obviously don't care what USC players think, but recruits and their coaches might be interested...

This is what i love about having tough ass NYC kids lead this team. They are not going to take any from anybody. I love it and hope they keep it up

And keep bringing their buddies with them

My big concern with the taunting was that a fight would break out which would have been all over the news. It may be true that all publicity is good publicity, but after the past year I don't think SU needs to have ESPN mocking SU football for fighting pre-game Hurricanes style. My next thought was that some of the USC players must have been trash talking during the warm ups earlier, and these guys decided to say something while they waited to go to the endzone to pray.

We need a little swagger back in the program. Im sure Doug wouldnt let it get out of hand
