Class of 2024 TE Michael Smith (GA) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (1/4/26)

Let’s hope he works out better than the last couple S. Carolina transfers. After 2 years out of HS i don’t think HS rankings matter any longer. Also suspect he left the team in October over playing time. Honestly, would have been more excited with the N. Mexico St TE. He has potential, but hasn’t proven anything yet.

When you consider balancing resources, this wasn’t our greatest position of need. So I’m ok with us looking for a value add.

He did play as a true Frosh in the SEC so I like the pickup.

Don’t be surprised if they don’t add another if they like someone. This is now the era of you just never know who will leave and therefore bring in talent to compete and let it shake it

TEs we need...
Smith would seem to be a RS soph--- 6'4" 250 lbs.
We have David Clement...didn't seem to play much in 2025 season.
RS Jr or senior...6'6" 260 lbs.
Finally, Tremble goes both ways...I'd kind of like to see him play LB if the other 2 workout.

MICHAEL SMITH CALVARY DAY SCHOOL HS, SAVANNAH, GA, 4 STAR ALL RATING SITES, 31 OFFERS
#10 6' 3" 250 TE / EXCELLENT HANDS CATCHES EVERYTHING/FAST FOR SIZE/ GREAT BLOCKING SKILLS
EXCELLENT GET 247.COM

A pass-catching tight end that can create separation with his short-area quickness. Size hasn’t been verified, but looks to be somewhere in the ballpark of 6-foot-4, 235 pounds after an in-person evaluation. Excels in 50-50 situations as he can box-out defenders and put himself in position to make a play at the catch point. Has lined up primarily in the slot at the prep level, but also has some experience working in-line and has been deployed here and there as an upback. Above-average vision combined with natural core power helps him power through tacklers in the open field and pick up YAC. However, must continue to improve blocking technique and get better at the point of attack if he’s going to reach his full potential as a Y tight end. Should be viewed as one of the top talents in the Peach State for the 2024 cycle given what he has done the past two years: just over 1,200 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging close to 20 yards per reception. Needs to keep progressing and avoid setbacks, but has some of the tools required to emerge as a difference-maker at the Power Five level given how he runs routes (especially the short ones) and catches the football. Sunday potential.

I say this in jest, with peace and love.

But I find it humorous that over the weekend, you were disappointed by the schools the players that had publicly disclosed they were visiting were from.

Then we land an SEC transfer, and you find something to be disappointed about with that!

Again -- I say this totally in jest -- love you, anomander! Just poking fun.

It’s totally fine if you don’t agreement with me. It’s a discussion board. I never take anything personally and come here for the common love of orange and conversation. It’s all good, but i did specifically say that my preference is based on the player, not where they play. I actually said i’d prefer proven players from lower levels rather than back ups from SEC/B10. I just didn’t think the lower level guys who had announced visits were that good . Still, high upside. Let’s hope this one turns out.
