Watching GW game again and I noticed just how poorly the team shoots. I remember hearing at a shooting clinic my kids attended that missing long or short were good misses but missing right and left were bad because that indicates a bigger problem with the shot.
This team misses a lot right and left. Seems like real flaws with the way the ball comes off their hands. This is a comment about almost all the shooters. Not sure this can be fixed during the season.
For starters, Kris is routinely fading away on threes when no defender is within ten feet of him. He misses most of those. He's much better when he goes straight up; I have no idea why he's shooting like Todd Burgan and agree that this will be a difficult thing to fix within the season.
Scoop isn't squaring well and is strangely clicking his heels nearly together when he elevates.
Southerland still aims too many; this is something the staff has certainly identified. I often see Boeheim yelling at him after a miss to "just shoot the ball."
Triche, I have no idea. He had a leaning problem earlier in the year, but he's just been wildly inconsistent in both his form and his percentage of makes.
Waiters is taking increasingly few threes. Two games in a row he's unsuccessfully attempted a ball fake and tried to drive off of it. I don't think he's a very good shooter, but I'd like to see him take the shot if he's open (he's bound to make 30%, and those driving lanes won't be available after next week).
To a man, their mechanics are inconsistent and poor; Kris is the most frustrating, because he started the year well but has adopted this ridiculous unnecessary fadeaway habit that is killing his ability to make the shot. Everyone has shown he can get hot and knock a few down, but it's likely that we'll have a bad cold spell. Hopefully the defense can make up for it.
