Watching GW game again and I noticed just how poorly the team shoots. I remember hearing at a shooting clinic my kids attended that missing long or short were good misses but missing right and left were bad because that indicates a bigger problem with the shot.

This team misses a lot right and left. Seems like real flaws with the way the ball comes off their hands. This is a comment about almost all the shooters. Not sure this can be fixed during the season.

Has JB said anything about the shooting capability of this team?

We shot 50% against GW and 48% (rounded up) for the season. Not too shabby, in my book.

Hard not to shoot 50% or better when fully half your shots are dunks. Anything farther out seems to be dicey right now. Hopefully it will get straightened out, figuratively and literally.

People complain before the GW game that we took too many jump shots.

People complain that we dunked the ball too much during the GW and Marshall games.

You can't complain about too many dunks, but when we are against a team that prevents the dunks, we still need to be able to score.

Don't confuse shooting % with the point I was trying to make. Our outside shooting is really not good. When we miss, we often miss badly.

Love the dunks but not the point.

Just note that many people on here choose to ignore how poor we are in the halfcourt and how sketchy the outside shooting is. Sure I like the dunks too but transition will be negated sooner or later.

The team's achilles heel is outside shooting and rebounding. I don't see that improving. The hope is that the D, the depth and the transition game can carry this team against the better competition.

Hmmmm. I, for one, sure hope that the shooting and rebounding will improve. There were too many lost rebounds against GW, IMO. Things that can be fixed.

I'd like to think that as well, but rebounding has historically been a problem...a problem that really never gets fixed. The only one who seems like he could improve in that department is Keita (based on what he did in a few games last year prior to getting injured). It would be nice to see BMK actually jump for rebounds instead if simply extending his arms up.

I would say we have a bunch of capable shooters, as opposed to saying we have good shooters. Jsouth, Triche, KJo, Scoop and Dion have all shown the ability to make 3s.

Yep and in each game they didn't make either one.

For starters, Kris is routinely fading away on threes when no defender is within ten feet of him. He misses most of those. He's much better when he goes straight up; I have no idea why he's shooting like Todd Burgan and agree that this will be a difficult thing to fix within the season.

Scoop isn't squaring well and is strangely clicking his heels nearly together when he elevates.

Southerland still aims too many; this is something the staff has certainly identified. I often see Boeheim yelling at him after a miss to "just shoot the ball."

Triche, I have no idea. He had a leaning problem earlier in the year, but he's just been wildly inconsistent in both his form and his percentage of makes.

Waiters is taking increasingly few threes. Two games in a row he's unsuccessfully attempted a ball fake and tried to drive off of it. I don't think he's a very good shooter, but I'd like to see him take the shot if he's open (he's bound to make 30%, and those driving lanes won't be available after next week).

To a man, their mechanics are inconsistent and poor; Kris is the most frustrating, because he started the year well but has adopted this ridiculous unnecessary fadeaway habit that is killing his ability to make the shot. Everyone has shown he can get hot and knock a few down, but it's likely that we'll have a bad cold spell. Hopefully the defense can make up for it.
