Ehhhhh they had a losing record in the MAAC last year and lost three of their four best players. Throw in the extent of their pauses and his coaching job this season is up there with Few, Howard, and Dennis Gates.

Iona has historically (especially over the past 10 years) the best program in the MAAC. Props for continuing the tradition. And, as I said, the man can coach. But this on-going canonization is a bit much.

I’m buddies with the commissioner’s son through a cousin I’m close with. I volunteered the MAAC a few times and went to watch in Albany a few others.

But the stories of his dad reacting when Iona blew a 24 point lead to BYU in the First Four as 14 seeds in 2012 (as college basketball as it gets) are hilarious. An all-time tourney meltdown that costed the league a nice chunk of change.
