Happened to turn this game on while doing some work, for work LOL. Holy crap I hope this isn't the direction ESPN games are headed. I'm sure it's somebody I should know but half watching I didn't catch the name but the screen is split down the middle and while trying to watch the game they are showing some guy holding a football doing play by play. It's so amazingly annoying, I had to change the channel.

was just about to post the same thing - What is espn thinking? they have the LIVE GAME shrunk down so some dude can face the camera in the booth (you can se the game going on down on the field behind him) and pretend to be the QB and describe what he's thinking and doing - it's flippin horrible

And who should appear in this game, but our own Rodney Williams on the Temple squad.

Finally a story of interest behind this game. I was struggling to find a reason to watch ...

Oh, that summarizes what I was watching exactly, LOL. I almost felt like I was watching a kids youtube video of him playing Call of Duty or Madden.

Looks like they realized how terrible it was and it hasn't made a return since the 3rd quarter. I was going to try to take a picture so people could see how annoying it looked.

They came back from a break and went straight to the commentator doing his thing. The game started so, instead of cutting away from him, they split the screen until he was done. Didn't happen again the rest of the game and, personally, I didn't think much of it.

Unfortunately, this may be a glimpse into the future of football broadcasts...kind of. A friend of mine, who works in the television industry told me that due to football games taking so insanely long, they're tossing ideas around of how to fix the problem. 1 idea is to stop taking commercial timeouts, and instead, much like you saw in last nights game, shrink down the picture during live game action, and run commercials at the same time.

If you had temple -7 you were sweating at the end...not that i'd know anything about that

Several pro games last weekend did something like that. Only it wasn't live-action, it was random shots of players on the sidelines while in the media TO. I have to think advertisers would demand reduced rates, as I assume people would be paying less attention than normal to this screen layout.

I don't mind the commercials during game play - keep them to 30 seconds and you don't miss much.

They could get the refs involved. When calling a foul, the ref could get a product placement in.

REF: “Holding, number 78. Do you know what else is good at holding? Gorilla Glue. Buy it at any hardware store!”

You may be on to something. Between announcers and refs, there is no need for tv timeouts.
Announcers'
"Dungey appears to be sidelined again. Reports are that he has something lodged in his eye. The medical staff is treating him right now with Visine...it get's the red out...and rubber pellets too!"

"Poor Deondre Francois! He's really taking a beating out there. He'll be reaching for the Advil...The every pain reliever...as safe and effective as a Syracuse's offense!"

"Wow...this Florida State offense should grab a snickers...cause they're not going anywhere for a while!"

TV production of sports has become something where they are trying to fix what isn't broken just to do something different.

As a volleyball fan I hated it during the Olympics when they would, on every serve, have closeup on the server until he/she contacted the ball. They would switch to the whole court view just as the the other team was about to contact the ball. It was horrible.

Stop trying to be more than the event.

"tackled for a SIG-NIF-I-CANT LOSS BY ROD-NEY WILL-IAMS"

some great calls by the play by play guy during the clemson game last year

"hes got some room here - DUNGEY DOWN THE SIDELINE"
