Temple...>Louisville's Replacement

Where is there any new news in there? Seems like a rehash of what others have said for awhile.

BTW, when exactly is Memphis joining the BE? Isn't it for the 2013 season?

The news is the that the Big East decided to keep the $20M from WVU and not use some of it to accelerate Boise coming for 2012. The hoops schools wanted to keep the dough, and not spend it. They risk having Boise pull a TCU - i.e., they might never get here. There is a year that Boise is out there talking to others about a home for their other sports. Since there is so much turmoil out there, there's a fair chance that another move takes place, and the Big East may have blown a chance to lock Boise in, but they cheaped out over the hoops schools getting to keep a few extra million dollars each.

I meant specific to Lville.

Some? Almost everything he said was wrong, the only things he may have gotten right is because he threw enough darts at the dartboard eventually one of them hit something.

PurpleBookCat was the other that achieved epic fail.

LOL I haven't read anyone who correctly guessed how realignment would play out...as stated above he did make several calls right. He was correct talking about brand.

theres not enough Jack Daniels in the world to make me ever think that lville to the ACC is A) a good idea and B) even being considered.

The ACC also added us because ESPN wanted to punish the Big East for turning down their TV offer. Don't forget that part, because that's a big key, or we may never have gotten off the Island of Misfit Toys.

Really? Any substantiation on that one?

Essentially taking the BE off the market as a major brand for Comcast to build around I can buy, but revenge? Uh, no.

Yep, they couldn't possibly have any other possible needs for that cash other than sit on it.

Anything to back that up other than speculation.

Looks like UL to B12 is the hot rumor. Academics be damned but I would like Louisville to the ACC. Oh well...it isn't going to happen. They will wait on Notre Dame.

This is the Big East in 2013..wow is it getting ugly.

I'm not sure if Louisville would make it #11 in the B12, but no way would the B12 take 12. Texas and Oklahoma were pretty happy about not playing a conference championship game as a hurdle to the national championship game.

Gene DeFilipo's comments before the ACC put the muzzle on him. And how is your comment any different than mine - destroying a major brand that refused your contract offer so other competitors won't find it as attractive does not equal "revenge" ? OK, whatever you say. If the Big East had accepted ESPN's offer, then ESPN wouldn't have said to the ACC, "why don't you go get these 2 Big East schools and we'll renegotiate your deal."

Who is getting the windfall ? The hoops schools. Who holds the majority of the conference votes on football expansion ? The hoops schools.

This isn't money that the hoops schools budgeted and expected to have to rely on to meet expenses. It's a WINDFALL. Nobody planned on these 3 schools leaving.

So, does the Big East INVEST the money, in order to tie up the best performing football team out there, in order to preserve or enhance their future earnings ?

Of course not. Short-sighted. Period. All you need for confirmation is the fact that the Big East is receiving $20M from WVU, plus $10M more from SU and Pitt, and they won't pay roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of that amount to get Boise into their conference as a replacement for WVU.

They NEED a replacement, remember, and they just got $30M (!!) and they won't pay ANYTHING to help Boise come to the Big East.

I don't call it speculation. I call it fact.

Still amazingly consistent with the conclusion jumping and conspiracy theories.

There is nothing to indicate in the article that ESPN was the instigator or lead in the ACC expansion. The ACC initiated the move, and discussed with their TV partner the alternatives. If ESPN advised them on which schools would provide the biggest bump, uh, what's wrong with that?

The ONLY entity that seemed to act out of "revenge" or seeking to "punish" another is the guy you want to use as your source. There is nothing there about ESPN trying to destroy the BE. Like I said, if ESPN was trying to deny Comcast a viable property it would make business sense, but that has nothing to do with a motivation to punish the BE.

I think Louisville is (and has been) a no brainer. The Big 12 is going to move to 12 teams there is no doubt. Then I firmly believe the next team to be poached will be Cinncinati - which puts the Big12 into Ohio and makes a nice little 3 team regional posse.

The 3 of WVU, LVille and Cincy to get to 12 makes to much sense.
I think it's been mentioned in the media that BYU is school #12, although I think Cinci may be the better choice for logistical and athletic program reasons. BYU comes with a lot of baggage.

Agreed.

BYU makes no sense geographically, but they'd definitely be worth more to the conference.
