Re-post from the comments section from the Post-Standard article on the 10 moments that defined SU football this year. Thought this guy pretty much nailed it. Again, these are his words not mine.

How bout I give you ten red flags instead.

1. Villanova game. No injuries, just poor coaching. Boom

2. Shafer not knowing the rule about killing the clock with less than 2 seconds. He's a head coach of a BCS school right?

3. ISIS comment. Embarassing for everyone, fans, alumni, etc

4. Punting the ball in the Pitt game on 4th and short. Say what?

5. Shafer naming Lester OC for 2015. Whawhat? Seriously? That's exciting. My stockbroker just blew my whole 401k but you know what I think he's awesome and Im gonna give him some more money to play with.

6. Shafer blaming the bad season on injuries. Huh? Can you really try to use that and stretch it out for the entire year? Um, I think that excuse may work for like 2 games maybe. But you know what, my 5 year old nephew believes that. He also asked me to clean out the chimney so santa doesn't get dirty when he stops by the crib on the 25th.

7. Senior walk-on busts his tail for 4 years sees no tick in last game even though Cuse had nothing to play for. Good character shown by Shafer. I mean according to him this program is all about good character kids and shaping young men. Oh ya? If you truly believed that, one of your top priorities that game woulda been getting that kid in the game any way you could. Didn't even matter if the game was close, if you gave a s#$t, you woulda got him in. That shows your true character Shafe and it sucks. Boom

8. Central Michigan. (ya I know they won but I don't care) The team is staying over an hour and a half from the stadium and he has them dress up in full pads to take the bus ride at a noon game with a 1 hour time change. He said " I wanted them to feel like it was high school again." Appreciate that Shafe, you are a high school caliber coach. That shoulda backfired on ya but it didn't because CMU was missing 2 stud players.

9. All the press conferences basically. No explanations ever given for anything. Just rambling about fighting our butts off. Brent Axe said it perfectly. Shafer doesn't understand that you can't just out muscle a team with hard nosed football. Its important, but its only a small piece to the puzzle of winning teams. The gameplan is actually way more important. Shafer was out coached in every game this year starting with Villanova. Seriously, there is no other reason Nova almost beat us other than coaching. Pointblank. Boom!

10. Seriously I'm not naming a tenth. Just going to say we lost between 5,000-10,000 die hard fans this year that will not watch a game or spend another dollar until this coach is gone. Many of these people are season ticket holders with strong ties to the community.

i am one. will not renew seasons, but may buy a mini package depending what i see in the off season. i do not want to hear about the bravado and fast pace offense etc etc. want to see what changes shafer makes if any. i want shafer to mature. otherwise, i will get the football package on rcn. just tired of the bs,false hope, and koolaid

Didn't know #7. If that is true that changes my opinion of him completely.

All valid points. I have not came up with one reason why Shafer should be our head coach. Not one.

^ kinda messed this up ANYWAYS

Your saying we beat cmu because they were missing 2 stud players... We were missing 2 stud players each game ! Except nova. Good points tho

I wasn't saying anything. I made that clear in my post.

Don't you think a P5 program should be able to handle injuries better than a MAC team? Is CMU going to pull another all conference wr or another Michigan transfer rb out of a hat?
Also, right now we have zero difference in talent between starter and 3/4 string. At qb, at rb, or at wr...
What Hunt got injured so we had to play Long or Wilson or Kimble? Broyld, a stud player that has never scored a td in 3 years got injured so we had to play Lewis or Ishmael?
Rbs in the game made no difference between PTG or AAM or McFarlane or GM2...

in regards to number 7 - do you honestly think he's the only senior walk on or are you just so happy to comment on some BS you read in the PS? I mean seriously? 2 things in response that are less judgmental: they are losing so they shouldn't bring in the walk ons. Period. You do that when you're winning. Also, there's a responsibility to the player to not throw him in a situation where he gets hurt. Every football coach will say that with particular emphasis on the trenches.

Of the 10, #7 is the least concerning for me - as an a fan and alum.

Also - I read it in the comments section, not the PS. Better chance of all of these things being accurate in the comments than if it were written in the PS.

I like Shafer...but

The first real clue that I, and I suspect others, had that he might not know what he's doing was last years Georgia Tech game (0-56).

The week prior to the game Shafer talked about how the defense had spent extra time since preseason practicing against the triple option offense. They were prepared.

Ya, like the French and the Maginot Line.

Just for accuracy, Broyld scored a TD as a frosh RB and was one of the few true frosh skill guys to have any impact in the past decade; led the team in catches as a soph WR (his second position change); and was injured for 2/3 of his junior year. Not that this changes your point ...

Hey, for the record, I love AB, I think he is one of the few players on our roster that would pass the "look" test on a SEC team. But yes, we did not have to overcome losing Antonio Brown or Cam Newton this year, the 2nd/3rd stringers were not that far off in terms of talent.

Really? Maybe in some cases (Ishmael playing more with Broyld out; Phillips for Estime), but not in others. Big fall off from a veteran Hunt to his back-ups -- huge loss when he went out, especially in the running game. Foy had developed into a good OT -- his replacements were sieves.
