Tennessee “Bulletin Board” Material?

I certainly think we should be dogs but i just think 14.5 points is too much considering i don't think their offense will be very good at all. They have a really good defense but Nixon will find a way to score some points. If we only score 20 i don't think Tennessee gets 35 on us. They don't score many points unless they play cupcakes. Sure, we COULD get beat by 15 or more but I think the chances are better that we don't.

I don't have that much faith in our defense, to be honest. I think we are going to have to score in the 30s to win, and maybe to even cover.

In my heart, I think we win. I wouldn't be going down there if I didn't.

Gun to my head, I think this game is fairly similar to our opener against Penn State in 2013 at MetLife.

I was mouthing off quite a bit in the parking lot before the game. Had a bit of a walk of shame afterward.

Buncha hicks in Knoxville. I took an official visit there as they were recruiting me hard to play golf there. I’ve never heard the word “Yankee” so many times in my life. Cool school and campus sure, but they are kinda like WV people. Very very very strange

If this is what Tennessee considers “bulletin board” material then they must be pretty hard up for motivation. I’ve read this multiple times and I just don’t see it? I get standing up for the ACC but that’s serious weaksauce from Rocky Top.

I can’t motivate my team

“It’ll be great for us to go out there and show them what we do in the ACC,” Diggs said. “Give them a tough game. No matter what, we’re going to stay where our feet are at right now, but when that game comes, we’ll show people how we really get down. That confidence stuff, it matters, but it really don’t matter.”
That is a sign of respect if they are looking for bulletin board material.

This as much that as what Georgia Tech did before our game. Fran made a whole lot of something I know I didn't here.

Game on. The Vols are good.

And if they lose do watch out for the frat visor wearing kids… very mouthy in the sec.

That’s a Nothingburger.

I agree on the takes from all here, Tennessee as a team does not scare me the same as Clemson or Notre Dame. I think we play them close. Likely get down early but claw back.

The problem I see is getting a fair shake down in Atlanta. We've already seen the disrespect that can happen when ACC teams (especially ones from NY) travel down to SEC country.

This game opening weekend is especially problematic in that Tennessee goes on the road to play Georgia two weeks later in a game that many fans and their superleague toadies think may end up being a College Gameday stop in week 3. It's must win for Tennessee which is a give in but then you have to assume that Georgia wants nothing to do with playing a Tennessee team on the road early on with a loss to Cuse.

I'm hoping that Fran Brown has already changed that dynamic. He's made it clear we are not some punching bag and is very smart with his words when it comes to officiating. Personally I can't stomach any ghost flags on critical plays in the 4th quarter which tends to happen.

Some good points here. Has me thinking does anyone know if this game will have SEC referees? In true road games, the away teams' conference typically refs the games I believe.

Since this is a neutral site game which conference will provide the refs?

Tennessee is deep on DL but with Pearce Jr moving on their pass rush takes a hit. Their WR room was leaned out a bit with Squirrel White transferring, Bru McCoy retiring as well as Thornton leaving. Nico leaving in exchange for Aguilar is a downgrade IMHO as Aguilar is turnover prone and has struggled in camp throwing INTs. The biggest loss was Sampson ... Tennessee is very effective when they can run and they are taking a step back in the ground game this year. They lost 1 Carter in the secondary who was a big contributor and if the other Carter (Boo) is still in the dog house and can't play they have lost a lot of experience in the secondary. Their SOS was actually weaker than ours last season and I expect them to take a big step back this year ... and it starts with us.
I know all the talk is Aguilar but they have a couple other young QBs that were rated high coming out of high school, a freshman and redshirt freshman. Both of them were right around top 200 guys.

Yep. There are yankees and damn yankees. Do you know the difference?

Damn yankees don't leave.

I wonder what Boo Carter must of done that would even question Tennessee not playing him. That’s got to be a high bar, being an SEC team.
While it is an SEC team, Heupel has shown to be a lot less no nonsense than his contemporaries.

I remember discussing that with some old dude in a bar in Charleston. He honestly looked like mark twain and had a young
Twenty something girl on his arm. He bought me a mint julep and he asked me if I knew the difference. I said nope and thanked him for his hospitality. Love them southern girls

Those young southern girls will love you too... if your bank account is healthy enough.

If he wants to become a HC and wants to stay marketable, the defensive scheme needs to make HUGE strides this year.

Absolutely agree. We were too passive last year. "Read and React". I like when you attack the other team and disrupt them, but we might not have the defensive backfield to do much blitzing this year.

I'll settle for the DL using some twists and stunts to get penetration. Not a fan of seeing our defensive tackle waltzing with the offensive guard.
