Texas high school football player trucks referee after being ejected

What happens here - sadly I think he plays next game or at least doesn't miss wrestling. Educational lessons thru sports are few and far between from the high school level down. Also reason 467 why nobody wants to ref.

If he plays another game, something is very wrong, especially considering this was his 2nd incident.

Wow I missed that part about the first incident. You are absolutely right. Actually you are right even if this was the first incident, but definitely being the 2nd.

If it's a non-violent offense like shoplifting or drug use, I'm all about trying to work with kids and not have them be hampered with a criminal record.

But this kid could have literally killed this older ref if his head hit the ground a certain way. If criminal charges aren't pressed, I wouldn't work another day if I was a football ref in Texas.

He should be in jail and never step on the field again. That's assault. The kid is out of control, especially if he did it last season too,
This kid will be in jail probably in the next few years if he doesn't get his anger under control. I thought about going after a ref when we played Penn State in '81 but I knew I would miss my family dinner at Danzer's later that evening so my stomach won out over my rage.

College football is so much more interesting when you get to hear actual human stories from people who play / have played.

Unless there's some details I'm missing where the entire team has had consistent problems with cheap shots and lack of sportsmanship, that makes zero sense to me. Why do all those kids have to be punished because of one sociopath?

Kid should be charged with assault and given jail time. I don't agree with punishing the whole team. That's harsh.
In general I agree. I hate the whole punish everyone for one person's stupidity, but I wonder if there are details we don't know about. There may be other events that never made it to the media that suggests a culture that needs a wake up call.

If there are and other players are in the wrong then they all should be punished. If not this isn't fair.

The old saying "one bad apple..." that is the case here. Can't have that school continue playing when they can't be trusted managing their own players.

It is the correct decision to end their season and throw them out of the playoffs. Sends the right message

From the looks of the kid, I'd say steroids were involved at some point

In sports, you learn that you have a responsibility to your entire team.
This is a lesson that applies to the real world as well. I can think of countless examples where the actions of 1 employee can result in serious consequences for the entire organization (being fined, a lawsuit being brought, loss of a contract, etc.). I realize that on some level it seems unfair to the teammates, but this is how the real world works.

Sometimes, but not always. A whole department doesn't get fired because of the actions of one employee.
