And here I thought football schools played in empty gyms. Second fiddle or something.I think this is the best non-Dome college basketball environment I’ve ever seen. I’m having fun watching. The audible ffffff Chris Beard chants are great.
Yep, people like winners. Give them a reason to and they'll show up to the basketball games. Auburn's stadium used to be crickets until Pearl showed up.And here I thought football schools played in empty gyms. Second fiddle or something.

To be fair. If the football teams lose, they still draw big crowds. It's still king.
It’s been like that for like 2 years, chillax. No doubt!
The SEC in hoops nowadays is what the ACC used to be, and sadly, we are them. Duke is our conference's only main player (like UK was) and the league consists of mainly mediocre at best teams and several bad ones.
I like seeing a new mix of teams rise up and compete. Also, what else do you think people in Lubbock have? A nice garden? Nope! The vitriol from Texas Tech fans is such a freakin joke. Lubbock is a backwater, and the program has been irrelevant for most of their history (even during the Bobby Knight era)—until Beard put the program on the map and took them to the national title game three years ago. He returned to coach his alma mater, the flagship university in the state. Get over yourselves. I hope TT goes back to being irrelevant.

things go in cycles
2018, sec had 2 teams in the sweet 16 and 0 in the elite 8
yep, 2006 and 2007. Back to back Florida championship, LSU final 4, Tennessee with Bruce pearl, Kentucky hovering.Yes, things do go in cycles. However, I can't recall (other than these past two years) where the ACC in hoops was ever in a cycle where its teams were at levels below, and arguably substantially at that, than the SEC. Do you?

The leagues were pretty even those years when you look at more than just FFs and NCs from a couple teams near the top of the league. When you consider the number of teams that made the tournament and how many teams finshed the year in the top 25 and where they were in the top 25 it's close both years. And those were probably considered a bit down for the ACC and up for the SEC. This year is quite a bit different.yep, 2006 and 2007. Yeah, Florida had a big upset of Duke in the elite 8 that first run. I believe it was in the dome. I think I was there for that. Tennessee has only ever made it as high as the elite 8. That was one time under Pearl before he got slapped with his recruiting violation and fired. LSU's was an unlikely run. They hovered near the back of the top 25 once they got in the second half of the season.Yeah, Florida came to mind for me with those back to backs. But, if I recall correctly, that first title was a surprise and kind of came out of nowhere, didn't it under Billy D? I don't recall LSU, was that an unlikely run for them? I do remember Pearl at UT and having some success. That's around the time we lost top recruit Tobias Harris to them, however, I don't recall them making a final four.
Even so, I don't recall the SEC back then being viewed as a conference on par with the ACC, let alone superior to them. Although, without going back to actually check, I don't know off the top of head as SU being in the Big East then, I didn't pay much attention. However, I'd have to imagine with the ACC typically being very strong and routinely thought of as/one of the best hoops conferences, that the ACC was still considered better overall, at least during the regular season. Regardless of those unexpected/unforeseen deep NCAA tourney runs from those aforementioned SEC teams.
Sure...thats fair. I guess my point is in the era of 1 and done and portal, would it stun anyone to see ACC back ahead of SEC next year or 2?The leagues were pretty even those years when you look at more than just FFs and NCs from a couple teams near the top of the league. Stun? No. But I think we need to be careful that we don't quickly dismiss this as simply a blip. The SEC seems to be investing in basketball like they haven't before. They have a number of coaches doing well that have no reason to leave anytime soon. The ACC is in a transition, losing a number of it's most revered coaches with no guarantee their replacements will succeed or that other teams will fill the gap. The ACC won't ever go away, but we can't say with certainty if/when it will be the dominant league again. It could be 2 years. It could be 10 years.Sure...thats fair.
