Been on the bubble the last month and are probably either the last or second to last team in. Had a shot to clinch a spot tonite against Iowa St and Iowa St ended the game on a 12-0 run to win by 2. Texas didn't make a FG for the last 7+ min. Gonna be a LONG couple of days in Austin to see if they make the field but this will be a real tough way to go out if they are indeed NIT Bound...remember when they were in the top 10 for the first 2 months of the year?? Things change so quick in NCAAB...

They were something like 2-13 vs the top 50. Cuse would have been a lock this year.

That was an epic meltdown even by Rick Barnes standards. I have to think their bubble is burst - or at least it should be.

Laughable they are even in the discussion, imo

Syracuse would not have been a lock. That is false.

Texas was 3-12 vs top 50, 6-13 vs top 100, and no bad losses.
We were 3-7, 4-12, and one bad loss,

Top Wins is a draw -- Baylor, West Virg, Iowa vs Notre Dame, Louisville, Iowa.

There resume is a little better. Not that it is good, just a little better. Bubble teams lose more often than not against top 50 teams -- that is why they are on the bubble What hurt Syracuse this year was it's 1-5 mark in that 50-100 range. You can't do that if you want to stand out on the bubble.

I think they should consider a 16 team first round playin in the first round of the ncaa tournament.
Alot of bubble teams feel they should be in and could make alittle noise if they did make it, and have a decent record to have a argument. It would also make the conference tournaments better adding a extra school or two from each major conference knocking at a tournament birth.

Nobody cares about those first 2 play in games anyway, add 6 more and put the midmajors against the majors instead and it would get interesting. Seriously does anyone even bother watching those first 2 play in games?

Texas should not sleep well. They were the fifth last team in ... and there is not much to separate them between BYU, Purdue, Temple, Indiana.

But overall they may have been saved by the teams that were out who overall are putting pressure to move in.

If you look at the bracket matrix, the last 6 teams out before today were:
Old Dominion - bad loss to a 9-9 C-USA team in QF
Texas AM - lost to a 4-14 SEC team (Auburn)
UCLA - commanding win vs a bad team USC (next game is key for them)
Miami (FL) - currently losing vs Notre Dame (a win would be huge)
Illinois - lost to a mediocore Michigan team
Tulsa - yet to play in the AAC.

The performance of those 5 teams that played above as a group is disappointing. They could have made tourney week and selection Sunday much more interesting

Very impressed with your posts jncuse. Syracuse is always my first love but I enjoy watching a lot of conferences so I enjoy your nationwide perspective.

Or just go back to 64.

They will probably get in just because the big 12 has been so good, but the fact that they are even in the bubble debate, just goes to show you how bad a coach Barnes is.

Barnes does less with more on such a regular basis that it has to be really bad like this year to even notice.

Texas was 8-10 in their own conference.

Barnes is gonna get canned. That was an epic meltdown. They made mental mistakes on every possession down the stretch, culminating with some guy taking an NBA 3-point shot with 8 seconds left when they should have held the ball. UT was loaded this year. Enough's enough.

Excellent post. Big 12 was a gauntlet this season. Texas has really underachieved considering the talent they had coming back. To me they have a bunch of PF type guys in their frontcourt who clog up spacing and no who can make an outside shot (sound familiar?). Holmes has struggled lately. But to say that Syracuse has a better resume than Texas is a fallacy like you said.

Texas had a similar meltdown as a team just 5 years ago. They started the season 17-0 and reached #1 in the rankings. They then proceeded to finish the season at 7-10, unranked entering the NCAA, and lost in the first round.

Barnes really should get canned.

Last year there was a topic about the best job in America. On certain fronts Texas is that:
- Good Paying Job / Good School / From what I have heard a great city to live.
- Low Pressure / Expectations to Succeed
- Easy to Recruit

Just look at the NBA talent that has passed through since 2003:

Kevin Durant
Lemarcus Aldridge
TJ Ford
DJ Agustin
Jordan Hamilton
Tristan Tjompson
Cory Joseph
Boobie Gibson
Avery Bradley
Royal Ivey
Damion James
Dexter Pittman
PJ tucker

And other than 2003, I don't think that team has ever ended up getting a 2 seed or above since then.

As the guy who bet Iowa St. to win the NC at 65-1 (thanks to recommendations from this board), I am very Happy that Iowa St. didn't hurt their seeding last night!

GO _______ .... what are Iowa St again? The Hawkeyes?
