Thamel gives some names

He is undefeated at Liberty right now and no one cares. In the ACC, he’s top ten and knocking on a playoff birth. Maybe that changes with a 12 team playoff but…
I believe his contract runs through 2030.

Thanks! I agree, I'd be very surprised if he wanted to come out of retirement. I figured he had to be solid with the fundamentals, same for Petersen. You can't have as consistent of success as they had without having teams that avoid dumb penalties and mistakes.

Your post made me Google 'Bronco Mendenhall quirky' and this came up... Good read! Gordon Monson: Bronco Mendenhall did some strange things at BYU. He’s doing something stranger at Virginia. Winning.

Excerpt: When he left Provo, he told some of his players that he craved the challenge of building something out of situations that are “unique.” And Virginia, with its academic standards and general lack of football tradition, provided that, just as academic and honor code hurdles did at BYU.

Someone tell this guy how unique of a challenge we have for him lol...
We are unique with the only dome stadium in power five football. I think he could be a great fit paired with Beck as offensive coordinator. Hell I’d bring the band back together and let Anae come as well.

Chip? He’s been on the west coast 20-30 years now?
Well he did a stint in Philly but again he is still a known quantity that runs an offense ideal for the dome and has had success at the collegiate level at multiple stops.

It's weird to me how race & religion & some other things are so casually brought up as factors to consider. Could care less about the coaches race or faith. More interested in what they are calling on 4th & 1 from the 45.
Lots of ppl in here trying to twist this more than it needs to be. All I’m saying is 1- it’s a fact that most football players are black and do identify / relate better to a black male head coach, and 2- Syracuse University, regardless of what you believe, states very clearly on their website their commitment to DEI hiring and minority hires. Just stating facts, no need for anyone to get uptight

There’s no doubt. And he’s completely out of our league…the guy we hire also has to want to come here…

Exactly. Which is why I’m non plussed with the names people are throwing around on this board. Think big, people!
Well, if you're not excited about the names being thrown about who are those Bigger Names you are suggesting?

No way…he’s got to be mid 70s now. If we go that way I give up for good
Why would anyone want a career special teams coach as a HC? Especially a guy with an infamously bad temper that has difficulty working with others. Iirc, he was escorted from the football facility by campus security during the Marrone regime.

Well he may not be at UCLA much longer so there is that … I doubt we’d even look but needless to say I’d be intrigued

Finally made it through the 21 pages. My current realistic rankings (I prefer going with HC experience):

Bronco
Chesney
Marrone
White
Lewis
I'd add Candle too

Bronco
Candle
White
Lewis
Chesney
Marrone
