Today is a great day for Coach McNamara and great day for Syracuse!
How would a Villanova coach know that? I don’t think Gerry would be telling that story.
Super surprised if it really happened ( not that he told you) and I think I know exactly who you are talking about.. it wouldn’t surprise me that assistant would tossing around some BS.. knowing how he handled the state playoffs and some things former BH guys we played against and some that roamed social circles after HS- I’d be shocked if he really got nervous.
I’m just passing along the story I was told.or was it because he hurt his hand late in the 1st half?
Red AutryI love and will support Gmac, but what Division 1 basketball coaches lack passion and heart?
I disagree. He had both of those. (I replied the same to someone else above.)Red Autry
the facts of how that game went would suggest he’s not wrong. Tight and awed by the moment isn’t a weakness. It’s human and I respect him ever more. Like I’ve said he’s the Syracuse Doug Flutie. A forever legend who shouldn’t have to buy a beer in the 315I’m just passing along the story I was told.
Why would it be impossible for an 18 year old to get nervous? Emotions get the best of us sometimes. Yeesh.
JB's legacy is set in stone. I hope it works out because GMac is such a legend as a player, and I don't want that tarnishedReally hope it works out because it will not only impact Gerry’s coaching career and the university it will forever tarnish JBs legacy because of how he’s been with the program and coaches since retirement.
I feel good for the fans that are excited for this.
I am not.
Very concerned that this shows us we've learned nothing. Having a new chancellor and a new AD is meaningless. Syracuse operates in a certain way and has certain expectations for basketball that has proven to be ineffective for a decade plus now, and we're
As a previous poster talked about the offense is not our offense. His kids are tough and gritty like him. Defense is aggressive and seams to rotate well.A lot of posters were team Hodgson. For those that are Team Gerry? What do you love about his style? How comfortable are you with the next 5 years at SU?
The Duke game was great, but i really am nervous about that being a flash in the pan game for him.
Dependent on who we get via the portal. I tend to agree with you but I look at Virginia, St. John’s and others that have made u-turns in one year. There’s no universe where Syracuse basketball is ranked to start the season.
This is exactly how I feel. Thought that there would be no way they keep it in the family after Autry. I'll support GMac but Syracuse is in a position where we can't afford another dud hire. I'd feel more comfortable with a proven coach. GMac may turn out to be a phenomenal hire but it is a risky hire.Lol one could only wish. Cannot believe this is the direction Cuse went after the way everything has gone recently and what Gerry has accomplished at Siena but it’s also so incredibly predictable at the same time. Not feeling confident in this hire whatsoever in the slightest and I hate that bc GMAC is an all time legend.
I really don’t like the idea of holding Gerry, or any other assistant, responsible for the decline in recruiting during JB’s final years. Many factors contributed to that decline and I would put the lion’s share of blame on the head coach, not the assistants. Gerry did very well at Siena identifying and recruiting superior talent (for that league). Let’s see what he can do as the head man at SU.Now we need to see how well he recruits. Wasn’t that great back in the day

Why pass that along? Doesn’t pass the sniff test for me.I’m just passing along the story I was told.

I viewed hiring him as an absolute last resort and an admission of failure.I think the problem a lot of people are having is that we didn't see Gerry as our 2nd or 3rd choice -- we saw him as like our 20th
UVA wasn’t ranked in the preseason poll. We also don’t have a HOF coach like St John’s. We also haven’t been ranked in years. Zero chance - we could walk out Jordan and LeBron in their primes and we will not sniff a receiving votes in the preseason poll.Dependent on who we get via the portal. I tend to agree with you but I look at Virginia, St. John’s and others that have made u-turns in one year.
Count me in this camp as well. Now let’s all hope that Gerry proves us wronger than a Big East assistant coach in a postseason superlative poll. This is exactly how I feel. Don't you dare threaten the perception of our players, especially legendary championship ones Scooch.I’m just passing along the story I was told.

How much truth there is to the money, who knows.
