In comparing SU to others it is a blessing that we have the Dome. It provides us with such a unique advantage. Take Minnesota as an example. They build a brand new beautiful stadium but its open air and in just a few years it becomes just another stadium. NDSU in Fargo however plays indoors and consistently wins national championships and beats teams like Minnesota on a regular basis.
Im so glad that the Administration realized what a unique advantage having an on campus enclosed stadium is. I cant wait to see how much of a recruiting boost we get after the improvements are completed.

I've never understood the whole "we have to be like everyone else" theme. I love it that SU is unique. Finally...SU has someone that realizes it and is taking advantage of it...and this goes for Wildhack as well. He knows what this is and is embracing it.

I just watched a game at Minnesota. It’s a great place and more of a college atmosphere then here. Fleck had some heat but in year two is turning it around. Bottom line, win with what you’re given.

I experienced Archbold both on beautiful sunny days & cold, wet, miserable days. Sitting on concrete slabs with rain/sleet hitting you square in the face is not fun at all. The Dome was such a great experience when SU football hit their stride in the late 80's & beyond. It's a shame that the program fell on such hard times of late & people stopped going. It appears we're back & money is being spent to improve the experience!! That place can rock like no other. Let's hope today is the start for another great run of Syracuse football.

Got news for ya, the start of another great run of syracuse football has already begun. Today furthers it

I hope you are right!! Today will tell us a lot about where we truly stand. I'm expecting it to be the game of the day.

I too went as a kid. And I do remember the miserable moments, although I always brag about having been there for the nostalgia of it all.
But every week, as we’re walking up the hill in the cold, wind, and or rain/snow, I tell my nine year old son, “It’s a beautiful day to have a roof!”.

A lot of people who whine about how SU should play outdoors would be the first to beg off a cold rainy game day. The dome was smart...and is essential.
More aptly, the people who complain that SU should play outdoors, are people who don’t go to games, and likely wouldn’t go to games even if SU has an open air stadium.

You didn't want to sit in the lower concrete seats on a rainy day. The water would cascade down the concrete step such that it was a stream at the bottom. Fun times? I don't think so.

The worst thing about the concrete seats was that water runs downhill.
I had a thermos filled with whiskey sours. I dropped it and it broke. My brother tries to salvage the sours by filtering the glass chips through his hankerchief Not good. Sours pour down to the next level

Fans in the row below not pleased

My brother and I were ball boys for Syracuse during the late '70s in Archbold. I just remember how cold, wet and miserable it was. And getting knocked down during a play onto a frozen field of mud is not fun. I've enjoyed the Dome since the first game.

Ah yes, I remember it well. Imagine a river of concrete with about 2 – 3 feet of concrete for you to sit on before cascading down to the next row. This was from 1962 - 1968 and Archbold had seen much better days. The concrete was beginning to break up on the surface so it was always a good thing to bring an inch thick plastic or fabric portable seat with you. In my years at SU the great thing to take your mind off the crumbling stadium was that in 64, 65 and 66 we had a backfield of Floyd Little and Larry Csonka. Little was a consensus All American every year he played and Csonka was his senior season. It was great to be me at SU from 62-68. We were Independents then and never ranked lower than 10th nationally at the end of each year. Went to the SU – ND game in Yankee Stadium in 1963 which we won 14-7. My graduation was held in Archbold on a hot May day.
And, yes, I can't wait to see the new Dome with its new roof and other amenities and see how it impacts the attendance and recruiting.

Even withou the rain in Archbold on cold days my buns would freeze and I lost all sensation in them.

Clouds full or rain would drift around and the come over the stadium and deposit the rain. Then the wind would start .

I disagree.

Townie man do i remember those games. My Dad had two traditions. One we almost always hit the Columbus bakery for a "warm" loaf. My dad would bring a stick of butter and we would share during the game. Often huddled under a sheet of plastic.
Second was the Varsity after. Always never missed it. Also we NEVER left early. Great memories still so grateful for the Lid.

The Dome is the best football venue I have ever experienced.

Best sight lines in football.

And the weather is always close to perfect.

I loved Archbold, but the thought of going back to an open stadium is sillly.

So true. If SU had accepted an open air off campus stadium we would have become Indiana, Minnesota, God forbid Rutgers within 5 years. But the Fat arsed on this board could have driven their oxygen driven Onondaga toxic laden tailgating Hoffman celebration. Some board member would post their take while we lost to Liberty at home on September 17th in a blizzard.
