As most of you know CTO supports the university in many ways. There is the auditorium at Newhouse which is named for her. Joyce's name also adorns a wall in the Melo Center. The national media gives Carmelo Anthony all the credit for the building but CTO, to my knowledge, is about an equal partner to him in making the building possible.

Has anyone noticed how much better the team plays now that it has access 24/7 to this fabulous facility? Have you noticed the level of recruits we are now getting the attention of?

Last night I was privileged to sit courtside in what some folks call the Jack Nicholson seats. Tomcat & I got to see the number one team in the land perform within arms reach because of CTO's generosity.

It's a shame that CTO can't make it to more games but she benevolently treats many people, several of whom reside here at syracusefan.com to unforgettable evening's of NCAA hoops.

Once again thank you Joyce for all you do for Syracuse University and the folks here at syracusefan.com.

I agree completely! Joyce IS what Syracuse basketball is all about. She bleeds orange deeper than almost everyone I have ever known, and most on this board. Thanks for all you do Joyce!

Joyce is no doubt an inspiration. Due to her generosity all the things Dan mentions in the OP happened. I had the chance to sit in celebrity row with my dad for a game vs. his alma mater, and my son for a game- resulting in his lifelong devotion to Andy Rautins and all things Orange. As I plan my future one of my goals is to get to a position where I can be as generous to my alma mater and to SU sports as she's been.

What I've done for now is carve out an extra couple of hundred bucks every year to give to my local high school's "Dollars for Scholars" program in her honor. I don't think I've made the donation in her name so she gets credit, but I should. I do know from my professional interactions at SU that the students up there love "the Herg"- their affectionate name for the lecture hall- and that many student development offices consider an event a total success only if it's held there.

When watching games, I try to scan the front row and count over. My son always asks who's in "his seat". :) Glad it was two such class acts last night!

+1 I had the privilege of sitting in the "Jack Nicholson" seats 1/1/11 when we whipped ND. Like so many others here who have benefitted from CTO's kindness and generosity, I'd like to second OE's shout out. Have a happy and healthy new year, Joyce!
LGO!

...passion and willingness to serve are two most comendable characteristics...when coupled with giving and sharing...a solid and wonderful persona is made...thank you Joyce, many of us who know you as CTO...have a reflection of what we all should endeavor to become...it is a pleasure having the opportunity to post with you as an 'Cuse person!

When I was in Iraq in '05 (and when I posted much more frequently) i mentioned in a few back-and-forths with JHJ where I was. Next thing you know, I receive a package from the SU athletic department with several Cuse posters, including an autographed poster from 2003...courtesy of Joyce! Thanks for all you do!

Also, I received several packages of gear from a couple other posters, most notably Dave from canastota. If you're still out there, what's your nick? I still wear your stuff!!!!

I first met Joyce at the Blarney Rock at the BET a few years back. After I introduced myself she immediately fought through the crowd of people to go to the bar and buy me a beer. I thought that was pretty cool. Very thoughtful.

I for one am honored to be able to chat with CTO and the other distinguished SU fans that inhabit this part of cyberland. CTO, please give Jim & Juli our best wishes on behalf of a few hundred of their closest friends that mostly they don't even know. The triad of CTO, JB, and Dave Bing have set enough examples of how to live life to serve many "legions" of SU faithful. Thank you for leading by deeds and not just words. That part means everything.

Joyce, thanks for all you do for Syracuse and it's beloved Orange!

Agree entirely. I was lucky enough to sit in those seats last December, and it made for one of the best sports watching evenings of my life.

Thank you for everything you do, CTO!

It's hard to add anything new to this thread, so let me just say that I am one of the lucky recipients of her immense kindness on multiple occasions. This includes a trip to the courtside seats, where the excellent BillOrange and I got to high-five GMAC after he sank a killer three in a win against Louisville in 2006. Sitting there was one hell of a big deal for a townie kid who grew up on Tipperary Hill, and had never experienced anything other than the upper deck--and suffice it to say that she made this happen during immensely difficult circumstances.

Joyce's acts of kindness go far beyond this--including her leadership and massive generosity in turning her dad's old fire station workplace in Armonk, NY into a great community center. There's lots more--including much that I'm sure I don't know about. She is an example for all of us. What a fantastic human being--a treasure for the board and for so many other people whose lives she's touched. Many thanks to you all over again, Joyce.

I had the exact same experience from Joyce at the BET during GMac's famous run, courtesy of an intro from nycfan.

I dont want to blow up anyone's spot... but if I am not mistaken, wasn't our very own CTO the subject of a WSJ article about giving till it hurts?

The more I read this thread, the more I think I'm starting to hate CTO... If only because it seems like I'm the only guy here who hasn't scored good seats through her... What the funk? ;)

1. Tomorrow is Joyce's birthday. Let me be the first to say happy birthday Joyce, and I hope everyone joins me in that sentiment.

2. Total agreement with all of the above posts. Joyce let me use her tix to a game. There is nothing comparable to that. Best time at a game, ever. She is just a wonderful person in general with her generosity and the fact that she treats everybody, from SU sports legends to people such as KingOtto, like gold.

I actually knew Joyce through work before we both discovered that were fellow Orange-people. One of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, who has gone above and beyond for people on countless occasions! Happy Birthday, Joyce, and Many Many More!

It can't be stated enough how much Joyce does for SU, the hoops program and our motley crew of fans here on the board. OE, you are a most deserving recipient of some of that generosity for all you do for us here no question.

Courtside for best game I've ever attended - Pitt 2003 (the three court rushes) and last minute ticket for the 2003 Regionals in Albany. Sweet!

Happy Birthday CTO! (who along with everything else she does, does a darn good Play-By-Play in the chat room!)

I have attended a few lectures in "The Herg." Great addition to the Newhouse complex. I felt smarter just being in there.

Joyce also gave me a great memory with those Spike Lee seats that I may have shared before about my son "Mr. Boots." but it is one of my favorite Joyce inspired stories - it was when we got to go to a game on Thanksgiving weekend a couple years ago.

Mr. Boots still tells his friends about when he saw the game in the chair ON THE COURT when he was 8!! I remember it even more because when people got to our house to bring us up to the dome he wouldn't put his coat on and was looking at the ground. He is a great kid and never causes trouble but when I told him again to get his coat he just stood there staring at the floor in front of everyone. My wife then pulls me aside and said "John - you know who SU is playing tonight, right?" I said Columbia. "Look at his coat." It was a Columbia jacket with a Columbia tag on it and even though I explained they had nothing to do with with who we were playing we ended up going with a lined SU spring jacket as it was a warmer rainy late Nov night.

Thanks again to Joyce for making that memory possible for both of us.
