we need the #3/#4 LBs to be the Franklin/bennett guys not the #1s and we need 2-3 Slaytons not 1.. the list goes on.. Neal as the change of pace 3rd down guy is fine like he was this year but we needed a true #1. We dont need a better slot gut than Phillips, but ISH types need to be our #2 not our #1 and then we need to find a #4 guy we trust, not one that just runs around with an occasional throw.

I've posted this before, but these were the members of Shafer's last class who didn't end up here plus the transfers out and where they all ended up. Shafer was okay with the top end guys, but the bottom was often ugly, which is why we've never had depth. The below recruits would have made up about 8% of our roster if Shafer wasn't fired.

It was, I'd bet. But it was hanging over his head because he wasn't a good HC.
